My brother and I went to a BBQ yesterday with some mutual friends from our college days. There were abut 20 people there, most of whom we did not know before yesterday. The subject of Charlie Kirk's assassination came up and it was shocking some of the things people said about it. They were literally gleefully celebrating his murder as a good and justified thing given Kirk's political views. There were many things Kirk said that I disagreed with, but does justify his murder? Is that where the left is today... kill people they disagree with? Where does the seething hatred and support for political violence come from in today's left? How did we get here?
1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Remember the 2nd amendment? Remember how its supposed to protect the American people against foreign threats and domestic threats? Yep, this is kind of what it means and what the current political climate is building up towards.
The left after suffering the right wings nonsense for decades now is finally reaching a breaking point with the 2nd Trump term and they are quite frankly close to give up on peace and choosing violence to, in their minds, reclaim their right to democracy and personal freedoms. I have no doubt that if there was an effective speaker then they could probably trigger the left to start a civil war right now.
And before you say it, most people in America dont see a future anymore. The American dream that you can achieve anything if you just put in the work is dead. The idea that you can effect political change by voting is dead thanks to gerrymandering and the electoral collage. They can't even protect their freedoms and rights anymore not to mention that healthcare is becoming unaffordable. For many people there is nothing to save so they might as well burn it all down and start over.
And how did America get here? Partially it was thanks to people like Charlie Kirk, which is why many leftists has so little sympathy towards him and even some openly celebrating his death. Welcome to the new America.03 Reply
Asker2 moFirst of all, you do not speak for most Americans. People on the right are more hopeful and optimistic for a better future than they have been for a very long time.
"The left after suffering the right wings nonsense for decades now is finally reaching a breaking point" Huh? Two terms of Obama and one term of Biden has been suffering under right wing nonsense? Have a little honesty dude.
Breaking point? Nah, you just lost and you can't stand it. People love what Trump is doing for the US and you can't stand it. You're not getting your leftist ways for a change and you can't stand it. Woke is dead and you can't stand it. You're pissed off you're not getting your way for a change so you think it's ok to murder people who disagree. I'd say it's incredibly childish but it's more dangerous than childishness.
Gerrymandering? Democrats have been doing it for decades but now you're pissed off that Republicans are doing it too? Spare me.
What personal freedoms did you have last year that you don't have today? Please be specific.- 2 mo
Obviously I dont speak for everyone. I dont particularly believe that right wing people are more hopeful and optimistic either. Short-term yes, they might be riding a high with Donald Trumps 2nd term but if we look at the first term then that tells us its just a temporary high with a following low. Trumps approval ratings for example are currently famously low and only rivaled by the approval ratings of his first term which was equally low.
Give it some time and the "it was better in my days" crowd will be out in force again.
And yes. The two terms of Obama and one term of Biden was also extremely painful for the left and much of it can be attributed to the right wing. Like when they for example blocked supreme court nominations from Obama or repeated shut down the government among other things. The right wing continuously made sure that the country did not function as it was designed to during the last few Democratic presidents terms by sabotaging the process. - 2 mo
And no, this is not about losing or being a sore loser. Democrats have lost before and at even bigger scales. They did not react like this. Their reaction now is different on a fundamental level. Its not that Democrats are upset that they can't get their way or enact their change, its that they have actually lost faith in the institutions and systems of government. What do people do historically when they lose faith in the government or its institutions? Revolution.
And as for what freedoms have been lost? Freedom of speech, like when Jimmy Kimmel was cancelled due to pressure from the white house and their crackdowns on pro-Palestine protests. The freedom to vote with said examples of gerrymandering, I dont care if you argue that the Democrats also does it since two wrongs does not make a right. Freedom from religion like with the new laws that forces schools in various states to display the 10 commandments which is a clear violation of the separation of church and state. There has also been instances of US citizens being caught by ICE and denied a legal trial. I particularly like the actual evil of deporting a 4 year old boy with stage 4 cancer while still being a US citizen. Speaking of that, Trump also has signed executive orders to revoke birthright citizenships but so far I dont think they have figured out how that would work.
I could go on honestly, the list is truly endless. Point is that there exists enough to motivate someone to hate Trump and the Republicans as a whole.

2 moThe left devolved. There were classic liberals, who were idealists in the strictest sense. They threw out all their good ideas because they were less than perfect; until all they had left were bad ideas. Then the modern leftists rose out of that mess, with an upbringing that emphasized feelings over facts and praised unruly, entitled brats for being ruled by their emotions.
I defy you to produce a humble, hardworking, honest and productive human being under such circumstances. What we have now is a bunch of overgrown children who don’t really know what violence is. Which makes them all too willing to engage in it, while simultaneously claiming that they’re the sole victims of everything. Facts and reasoning left the democrat platform at least twelve years ago. It didn’t seem so bad at the time because the republicans were pretty ridiculous themselves at the time. Eventually the lunatics took over the asylum. The republicans might have invented crazy, but the democrats perfected it. And now we’re here, on the verge of civil war because seventy-five million people and their pandering mainstream media are mad about losing an election and refuse to dial down the violence, let alone the hateful and ignorant rhetoric.01 Reply
Asker2 moWell said. I used to consider myself a liberal, but that ended with the Biden / Harris administration. What an absolute cluster fuck that was. And what has become of liberalism in the US in recent years is pure insanity. I have never voted for Trump, but I appreciate some of the things he is doing to right the ship and save the US from liberal insanity.
Anonymous(25-29)2 moThey have a need to control everything. The fact that they can't do anything about people that don't think and act just like them is enough to send them over the edge. The funny thing is, they think they're superior. Smarter, more educated, better than all of us. That's why they think they have to speak and fight for the poor "marginalized people". They see those people as weaker, dumber, unable to speak for themselves. They think those people are less than themselves.
People like Charlie, who dare to openly challenge their world view that they are the saviors of the world must be destroyed in their opinion.

2 moThere’s plenty of sheer hatred on the right too. The powers that be constantly want us divided and fighting because it means they get to maintain the status quo that lets them keep their power.

Asker2 moThere is hate on the right too, but NOTHING like what we are seeing today on the left. Yes, there have been politically motivated murders of democrats, like what happened recently in Minnesota, but no one celebrated that like they have en masse after Kirk's murder. And it's not just a few examples. We're talking about literally millions of leftists celebrating and/or justifying Kirk's murder simply because they disagreed with his political views.

I guess you don’t remember the parades in the streets held for Margaret Thatcher’s death either
Asker2 moI was talking about today, not historical events. If you reread my question I was referring specifically to today's left in the US. I'm guessing you don't live in the US. If you did, you would know there is unprecedented politically based hatred here across the country.
- 2 mo
It’s not really “historical” considering she died in 2013
Asker2 moIt was more than a decade ago and it was the other side of the pond. Nothing whatsoever to do with my question. If you have anything relevant to share, feel free to do so.

This isn’t abnormal behavior for publicly hated figures
Asker2 moThere is nothing normal about the ubiquitous seething hatred of the left today in the US. Trump Derangement Syndrome is a very dangerous illness, clearly, and it has become an epidemic. Kirk Derangement Syndrome is a symptom of the same illness. If you think any of it is normal, you are part of the problem.
- 2 mo
Statistically, the political violence on the right is orders of magnitude higher. You just aren't told about them just like how you are probably not told that there is close to two mass shootings a day in USA now and close to one school shooting a day.
Also, the right wing has celebrated the deaths of Democrats for years now. The difference is that you dont normally see this on the news so you get only a partial understanding of the whole truth.

2 moIn his honor, we’re living the way Charlie did

I’m only half-serious, I acknowledge the tragedy and that his death was wrong. I don’t know a soul celebrating his death. But I’m just not going to forget who the Charlie Kirk I knew in life was, and my opinions about him are the same regardless of his fate. This was the bed he made for himself, in terms of reputation. I’m not dunking on him or spiking the football. I’m just saying the fact that he was wrongly murdered changes nothing about my opinions about his opinions. I’m just being consistent.

Also, not for nothing, it’s RICH that the right would even fix their mouths to talk about “hatred.” Were it not for the original, unprovoked, unwarranted hatred of the right, the left might not even exist. We’re active in the first place BECAUSE of YOUR initial hatred, like that’s literally what we’re fighting against politically.

When i die I want my family to tell stories about me. Good bad and the ugly but still want to put effort in digging my grave. That's a BIG ass hole to dig and need to make it a point and contribute the effort on those people digging my grave that I'm worth while and not left in the ditch.
You do have to earn respect. I get dying young is an extra tragic and potential cut short of this opportunity. Charlie kirk made it a point who should and shouldn't respect him.
Asker2 moI did respect Charlie, as did millions of people all over the globe. I respected his because he encourage open debate and sharing of ides. Unlike today's left, who think it's ok to kill people they disagree with.
7.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. That assassination has lead me to not trust anything from the left anymore, they only use speech to deceive at this point.
They are literally trying to tell us that the right is more violent when no one actually believes that. If they did, people would have boarded up their windows and placed American flag as a "please don't hurt me" after Kirk's assassination, but they didn't and nothing happened but a candlelight vigil.
The left calls them the fascists, knowing full well it isn't true, and in doing so, they mark you for death. Saying that Trump is a fascist incites an uprising to overthrow him. That's what that bullet casing of "Bella Ciao" implies. Every accusation is projection at this point.

Asker2 moSo your answer to the question of why there is so much hate on the left is... it's because there is so much hate on the left. Got it.
Asker2 moThat's not true though. Leftists hate Trump, and anyone who supports him. That's where it originates. Look at the Charlie Kirk memorial. It was 100% peaceful more than 100 million being there in person or tuning in online Compare that to the fallout from George Floyd's death. Night and day. The reason Trump supporters dislike leftists is because of Trump Derangement Syndrome. I challenge you to show me anything to the contrary.
- 2 mo
Except it is true.
Yeah they hate trumps pedo ass because he's a piece of shit, and they hate his supporters because a loud minority are assholes and the majority don't tell their own side to shut the fuck up and be civil.
Yeah it was night and day, so what? Assholes didn't riot this time around. On January 6th, trumps people stormed the capitol with some wanting to hang mike pence. Peaceful right? No. Rioters and hateful assholes are on both yalls teams.
Asker2 moYep, you're one of them. I already knew that though since you have been a hater on GAG for a long time. Haters gonna hate, but not people are dying as a result. As long as people like you are able to justify your hatred in your own minds, things will just continue to get worse.
Anonymous(45 Plus)2 moHortman, Pilosi, Biden, Harris, ... pot kettle. People are pissed at Trump and finally learning to speak up instead of not.

Asker2 moLast time I checked Pelosi, Biden and Harris were still alive. It's ok to be pissed, but not ok to kill or spread hatred. The level of hate on the left today is astounding.
Opinion Owner2 moWhat hate?
Show proof. None of you can.
Lets see.
Asker2 moYou are either incredibly dishonest or you have been living under a rock. As a leftist yourself, I don't believe for a second you haven't seen it yourself considering normal people like me can't escape it because it is literally everywhere. You want proof? Spare me. I didn't video any of the disgusting comments made by leftists at the BBQ, nor did I video the two couples sitting next to me at a restaurant Sunday saying things like Charlie Kirk was a piece of human garbage and he deserved to die. My niece also didn't record all the students at her university last week cheering about Kirk's assassination. It's been happening all across the US and everyone knows it. I won't spend the time to look up links for you of the hundreds of teachers who have been fired across the country for saying similar things, but you could easily find them if you actually wanted to. You won't find videos or their social media posts because they have all been taken down, but you will find hundreds of references to the things they posted. Just use Google. But I'll throw you a bone and give you a few examples.
This video was posted on the official Black Lives Matter (BLM) Instagram account in response to the murder of Iryna Zarutska.
