Iowa farmer warns of potential crisis as China halts soybean purchases https://share.google/PshX0C50teXB9GgiF
In Trumps first term he used 92% of the tariffs collected from Chinese imports to bail out farmers. You'd think somebody would've learned a lesson. For the record, Chinese global exports are up this year even though their shipments to the US are way down. Looks like China doesn't need the US as much as Trump thinks.

No, MAGA farmers couldn't connect the dots in tRumps trade war to their own economic downfall. Yes, they are that fucking stupid! MAGA believed the Chinese were going to pay tRump's tariffs. No, they will never be any smarter. These idiots have been voting against themselves their entire adult lives. They will do it again tomorrow. Republicans depend on the stupidity of their voters.
WE HAVE A WINNER!!! 🏆

Likely not, as strange as it sounds.
Had it been handled better retaliatory tariffs might not have happened. The cause for this being a problem is not tariffs imposed by Trump but the fact that China decided to do the same thing in return.
So no. It is perfectly normal for someome who believed tariffs were good or a normal action at all, it is not, to also think other countries will take the nonsense without response. Which of course, is actually a sign of psychosis but a grasp on reality is hard to have when your representative claims things like no Inflation while the economy is at its historical worst ever.
@exitseven Ok, while American farmers are getting screwed... I'm sure they are happy just being patient until it all works out...
@exitseven I don't think you're comprehending what's happening here. I just posted another piece. Please explain these "other markets." Don't you think that experienced farmers are wracking their brains to figure out what to do? It's not just one farmer. You can do a simple search and figure that out...
Food is very inelastic as a group of goods. Not so when you break it down to individual items. But glad to see we are employing some basic economy!
Actually I think 3 football fields is underselling it by a lot. But also these are goods that US citizens want and that US companies need. They are not dumping unwanted trash in your country. They are providing cheap manufacturing to enhance your lives and businesses.
I get that it might seem better to handle all the means of production but in reality it often is not. Especially so when you do not want to work at the same poor conditions.
Either way. Please understand that the US market has not been this bad in about 100 years. Including multiple financial crisis periods. The government pretending all is well while the house is burning down does not mean the house is safe.
A farmer says...
One farmer? Singular? Reading the article, the things he says doesn't even make sense. Like not at all. He's spouting bullshit.
But IF China stopped buying American soybeans, how is Trump supposed to know that? The tariffs on China are because they have been protectionist as hell - FAR more protectionist than the US. Same with most other countries. Trump is right, it's one-sided.
We should continue with the tariffs on China. If they want to retaliate and start a trade war, they will lose. They should never have been given favored nation status in the first place. They can dish it out but can't take it. They want to play games, they'll lose.
It's not just one farmer. I posted another piece. Please do research if you really want to understand what's happening.
How was Trump supposed to know that China would retaliate from his first term trade wars?
ITS A TRADE WAR!! JFC
Soy bean is a commodity. The world population demands a certain amount of it no matter what. If China scrambles to purchase it from other nations like Brazil that leaves a shortfall for Brazil's normal customers. They then need to find a new supplier. At the end of the day, the United States being the second largest producer of soy bean and largest exporter of food picks up the slack and fills the gap to supply whoever is without for whatever the market rate is at the time. If China demands Brazilian soybean over American soybean that just drives prices up in the end as buys get pushed out of the Brazilian market by the eager Chinese. You just end up with a market lag while consumers sort out their affairs when it comes to signing new contracts and managing new supply lines for delivery...
*buyers
Food is an essential resource. People don't just stop eating because the price goes up. They do whatever they can to find a new way to get food even at higher prices.
So really, you're mad at China for not buying U. S. soybeans. Like said elsewhere, the tariffs don't effect exports. Technically it's China snubbing the American farmer, not Trump, because China doesn't want to trade fair. Besides, Brazil has produced 50% of the world's soybeans for years. If Brazil wants to suck China's dick, let em.
China is simply buying the product from a place that's selling it for a cheaper price. It's not rocket science.
Where are the American MAGA farmers supposed to get their protein from if China's busy fluffing Brazil?
@DrPepper12
There's either gonna be a market or there won't. But if the soybean market needs to be subsidized in order to stay afloat, then it's not a market that the U. S. should be in.
It's ironic cause I'm watching my neighbor combine his beans right now.
Elections have consequences. FAFO.
Even if there is a shred of truth in this, China needs the US market a lot more than the US needs China. Trump is separating the two economies. It is long overdue. Eventually this will be resolved.
Right... that perfectly explains why China is shopping elsewhere... because they "need us." Please explain that to American farmers who are getting screwed. I guess they will just have to wait. Any timeline on that? I live in Iowa and know more than a handful of soybean farmers...
That lie that you keep choking down about American exceptionalism is going to kill MAGA
@DrPepper12 American exceptionalism is no lie. They hate us because they cannot be us.
No. No they don't.
Yes, we're our losing our biggest customers. Hint: one of them is China! They have decided to buy elsewhere... like Brazil and Argentina! You're absolutely correct! It will be extremely difficult for American farmers to make up that business!
Why do they keep voting for people they know from prior experience, is going to severely damage their livelihood and that of their family? Because they know that everyone else will have to bail them out. Again.
Doesn't China own a lot of farmland in the US?
Probably, but that isn't helping AMERICANS. It's American farmers who are getting screwed...
It's the farmers who are selling their land to foreigners.
This is about crops, not land. Because of tariffs, they are losing the business from China to foreign markets. China is a HUGE customer for American farmers.
Oh you believed that trump lie?
He spent that bailing out Venezuela with US
taxpayer money... make Venezuela great again his next conquest in sight
Tariffs are on imports not exports. I don't see how this affects China.
So, why are they all of a sudden purchasing soybeans from other countries while American soybean farmers are hurting?
China found international suppliers in Argentina and Brazil from the first Trump trade war.
When Doge killed USAID 40% of their harvest sales evaporated.
They have absolutely no one to sell to.
Well, that was the way he was warned it would be. But really, he’s not that bright…
No he didn't think about it
There are other markets, things will be ok.
Go tell that to the American farmers who are suffering RIGHT NOW. I don't think you're paying attention here. Don't you think experienced farmers already know? You're being an arm chair quarterback..
