What did you think of the tribute to Charlie Kirk?

Personally, I found it disgusting. This transformation of death into a spectacle.  This ability of Americans to turn everything into a show, even death, is obscene. But  Let the show go on...

Kirk should not have been murdered like he was. That guy who did it is a lunatic fringe nut.

But the lauding of a podcaster and right-wing debater, simply because he was killed, not because of his general value to society, was dumbfounding. He was useful to the Trump agenda, which is why Trump and Vance showed up for his memorial. Not because he was of general value to this nation.

Kirk spouted venomous rhetoric against civil rights laws that have been passed in the past 70 years that lead to leveling the playing field for women, people of color and LGBTQ folks. He was openly against trans people and felt that women should be at home with children and not involved in careers.

He quoted biblical text as truth instead of as writings made by dozens of different men with varied ideas more than 2,000 years ago. Life has changed since then in people's thoughts, actions and considerations.

To be sorry about his murder is valid. To lift him up as a martyred saint is absurd.

Thing is he wasn't a great debater. Sure he could take apart someone at a festival who turns up at his booth unprepared and full of beer but time and time again qualified debaters wiped the floor with him.

He was a useful idiot to Trump, nothing more. Like the thousands of other podcasters, you tubees, etc he could sat the stuff the far right wanted to hear but Trump couldn't say yet his silence screamed agreement.

End of the day he was a minor circus entertainer, he wasn't an elected politician he was a guy who let people rant at him for financial gain, a man who's only function was to keep Americans hating each other, he was indirectly responsible for countless deaths across America.

It was a despicable MAGA rally. Erika Kirk was gracious and incredibly dignified where I was genuinely moved by how composed she was. Trump was an embarrassment making it about himself, particularly when he expressed no sense of forgiveness in response to Erika having the courage of her convictions to show forgiveness despite the appalling ordeal she and her children were put through. Stephen Miller just continued to show what a nasty piece of work he is, pretty much plagiarising Goebbels in reference to the storm.

I think it was Trump using the death of a man to jerk off his own ego and party. I didn't like Charlie kirk, I thought he was a piece of shit but exploiting his death like this is disgusting. At the end of the day in spite of everything I hate about the man he didn't deserve to have his throat slit with a fucking bullet in front of his wife and children. Trump using his assassination for political clout is disgusting.

Seems 100 thousand people would disagree, that's the number of people in the arena, and overflowing outside, who attended the tribute, plus millions who watched online.

I only watched part of it. From what I saw, it was a moving remembrance of a good man, husband and father who senseless was silenced for his beliefs.

I wouldn't say it was "disgusting", but it was very over the top for someone who was just an activist and podcaster. Someone said it looked like a State funeral. I think only Steve Irwin had something similar and he was loved by everyone.

But it's Trump so I'm not surprised. Trump has to turn everything into a spectacle.

The death has honestly shifted poll right. Democratic voter and independents have been lost in the month. Also historically assassination polls hold between 3-6 months longer for the party the individual represent. Even mainstream is covering the loss of democratic voters in the last year. It’s nots just in small independent feeds anymore.

i loved it. and you could literally see the "evil people" burning from being in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Just look how much it bothered you. I'll never celebrate the murder of a person just because I disagreed with them politically. Sorry you lefties can't say the same.
