Why is the media so insane in this decade of the 2020's?

From films to politics the American Media is more off of its rocker today than ever before,... my question is why? Why are the media and the internet so drastically different in a negative way now as opposed to 20 years ago in 2005?

I personally feel there's 3 main reasons, and I'm focusing purely on American Media since its undoubtedly the pinnacle of polarisation...

The first reason I think is that it's just too peaceful. People want to have things to fight for, to be a part of and to defend, a community or a cause. There was significantly less division in the early 2000s because of 9/11, during the Cold War, during the fight against ISIS, during the World Wars simply because there was a common enemy. At this point, there isn't really a common enemy, so the fight has shifted within.

The second reason is that the Internet has given everyone a voice and an opinion. In 2005, Internet was not yet readily available to everyone, social media was not yet widespread. The fact that everybody has a voice means that even the most deranged can have their opinions heard. I believe that most of the comments you see on Instagram for example are these minority. The majority of the people on social media scroll through a few posts for a minute or two and get back to work or to whatever they were doing. The vocal minorities are the one adding fuel to the fire.

Remember back in the 90s, actors were mysterious, little to no political agenda, they did a couple of interviews for the movie and that's it? Now they're posting all their thoughts on social media with huge followings. With all due respect, some of them didn't even graduate high school, others graduated college with a degree in theatre... Why comment on geopolitical issues? Can they even point to Israel on a map?

The third is of course the severe biasness of the mainstream news outlets. The disinformation, dishonesty and clear agenda partiality has resulted in radicalisation on both sides...

Let's be real here, I'm not a huge fan of Trump as a non-American, but to equate him with Hitler and attempts to assassinate him is just insane. Furthermore, there were people celebrating the attempt at his life all over the Internet... Its crazy...

Don't know if I even answered your question but these are just my thoughts. There are probably a hundred reasons though.

For decades they have been just the propaganda organization for the democrat party. I suppose as the democrats got crazier and crazier the media had to provide cover for them.
