No, there's 2. People understand their individual lifestyle of varying mixtures of typicaly male or female choices as all separate genders which is bullshit. We're all individuals so there'd infinite numbers of different lifestyle choices. But there'd only 2 genders. And yes what is considered female and male in a social context is variable over time but that still doesn't mean there's more options than 2 when it comes to gender. There may be certain things that aren't associated with gender at all but these aren't a third gender at all. Calling these a third gender is like calling "non religious people" as part of the "religion of atheists". It doesn't fit the category. Same with gender.

So I guess in a nutshell: people are confusing their individualism with gender.

Nope, sure don't. Gender is how we describe attributes that we know the two sexes have. We know men have male gender and women have female gender. There are no other sexes.
