Do you hear about the Kansas Mayor who Voted Illegally, including for Himself?

The Mayor of the town of Coldwater Kansas was just re-elected. The Kansas Attorney General has charged Mayor Jose Ceballos with election fraud. He is in the country legally but is a Mexican citizen, which makes him ineligible to vote, and ineligible to hold office. He reportedly voted, illegally, in several local, state and national elections, including those in which he ran for Mayor, and won.

If convicted, Ceballos faces up to 5 years in prison and a hefty fine.

People are tightly asking how this can happen
Kansas officials are saying that their system relies on the honor system, that each voter follows the rules. They are working now to change that

Pretty damned funny and I hope he gets a good sentence (as in long) because it is flagrant.

None of my business though cause I'm not American.

But it is funny when a winning candidate turns out to be an illegal candidate. An Australian Deputy Prime Minister had to resign not because he wasn't a citizen, cause he was. It was just that New Zealand decided to make all descendants of Kiwis citizens.

So in the middle of an elected term, he suddenly owed fealty to a foreign power. Not to worry he got to renounce NZ citizenship and win at the by election.

It was a lot of fun.

I wonder if he innocently thought he could vote/stand because he was legal. The fact non of the opposition parties raised this prior to the election is interesting as is the fact the town was willing to vote for him.

Only citizens being allowed to vote has always seemed wrong to me. After all people like him are living in the area and paying taxes so why shouldn't they have a voice?

One vote isn't gonna make a difference, but I'm wondering how he slipped through the radar and served to begin with, and does this mean all his policies will be nullified. But whatever. He's the mayor of some rural backwater, who cares? Election Fraud should only be punished, if it impacted the results. If he forged some papers to run, that should be punished, but at the same time, the incompitent city officials who didn't notice, should also be held accountable

Must be fake news. The democrats insisted that this never happens. That election tampering and voter fraud laws are the only laws in the entire course of human history that were written without prior antisocial behavior to compel the legislation. Ell oh ell!

I'm going to keep my powder dry until I know the facts. I feel like a sensible system wouldn't let you vote if you're ineligible. I can't turn up and vote in an election if I don't have the right paperwork.
