What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?

Thanks everyone for all the really good answers. I love the way everyone explained it their own way. This is how I say it. knowledge is the ability to know everything. Wisdom is having that knowledge and still knowing you are nothing.

Wisdom has sound judgement. Knowledge is more like maths but there can be judgement on top of that. So it is not exclusive but wisdom emphasizes the sound judgement aspect while knowledge emphasizes the mechanical knowledge.

Building regs are accumulated wisdom... It is better to have this margin builtin even though the structural calulation might indicate it is not necessary. Maybe a ship might lose power and drift into a bridge. So it is wise to have barriers to protect the bridges foundations.

Knowledge comes from books, lessons, people, experience basically anywhere information exists.

Wisdom comes from slowing down, reflecting, making mistakes, and actually applying what life teaches you.

You gain knowledge by studying.

You gain wisdom by living.

Which one matters more?

Really good question. The way I see it, knowledge is having information about things. Wisdom is knowing when to utilise that knowledge and how to utilise it. Anyone can gain knowledge, but wisdom doesn't come easy. It takes years of good as well as bad experiences before you gain wisdom. I could be wrong though.

Knowledge is information, wisdom is how you apply knowledge.

There is a saying. Knowledge is to know that Tomatoes is a fruit. Wisdom is to understand to not put tomatoes into a fruit salad.

Both are important and having one without the other is usually fairly pointless. How do you gain knowledge? Mostly through curiosity or through training yourself to question reality. How do you get wisdom? By learning how to reflect on yourself and critical thinking methods. Of the two I would say that wisdom is harder to get because people rarely train it directly and usually only get it through real life experience. It is like an untrained muscle for the average person.

You can get knowledge anywhere that can teach you things. School is a great place but you HAVE to be willing to PAY ATTENTION to what you're being taught and most people just don't!! Other sources are friends, relatives, cartoons, t. v., movies, records, books or just ordinary observation.
You mostly gain wisdom from experience and observation or you COULD have someone teach it to you.
