I think being smart is applying the knowledge you have gained while being knowledgeable is having the facts or information but have yet to apply it to whatever you need to apply it for.

Like I can be very knowledgeable about music, but actually using it to my advantage is what would make me smart.

Like if I wanted to go into the music industry as a songwriter/lyricist, having the knowledge of music theory, playing instruments and song structure would be beneficial and applying what I know would be smart and help me get into the music industry as a songwriter/lyricist.

This is interesting because your previous answer is one of the answers inspiring this very question, quoting:

"Being smart is the knowledge you've acquired through school, reading, and environment like from family and friends as well as genetics."

As you can see, it read like you didn't differentiate smartness from knowledge, but now you do differentiate

I thought in that question I was giving the difference between being wise and being smart.

I also said they could be interchangeable in that last answer if I recall.

Yep, the previous task was to differentiate smartness and wisdom, and you did say they were similar, which then means that you said that knowledge, smartness and wisdom were similar lol

Oh lol well they kind of are. You can't really have one without the other. You need knowledge to be smart you need to be smart to be wise. But there are differences as well.

being knowledgeable is knowing that tomato is a fruit. being smart is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.

I think I’m paraphrasing something from something, but it still works.

Nope, nope no in fact it doesn’t work because in some cuisines, you can put tomato in a fruit salad and I mean anybody could put it in a fruit salad if they wanted to and maybe some people would like it and when I get what it’s supposed to demonstrate, but I decided I don’t like this example so that’s all for now. I’ll come back later.

A tomato in a fruit salad... I'll try that lol

Oh, it's fine I understand the concept here, with or without a stunning example to illustrate 👌

It’s a poor example because it treats one culturally typical choice (not putting tomato in fruit salad) as the “smart” answer, instead of demonstrating actual reasoning across contexts. It doesn’t show intelligence—it shows compliance with an assumed norm

The tomato is fruit 🚫 fruit salad, falls short of it’s intended reach bc it doesn’t demonstrate how to use knowledge—it demonstrates how to default to an unexamined cultural expectation and call that intelligence.

I think it is fair to say , Knowledge is stored information whereas intelligence (being smart) is the ability to interpret, adapt, and apply that information across contexts without collapsing it into a fixed rule.

      — yes I know no one asked me, but I felt compelled bc it’s my fault the example appeared here in the first place. Retribution was required. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well, you certainly demonstrate analytical intelligence when you think about what you think lol

I could add that following cooking customs is an intelligent behaviour, social intelligence maybe?
