Let's say you take 1,000 random men and 1,000 random women. Then you teach them the rules of chess. Then they play many many times against one another. Would each gender win roughly equally?

This questions has been answered. A new Netflix documentary describes a woman who was reared from childhood to play chess. She is widely regarding as the best female player in the world, but she struggles to reach a top ten ranking in the world and usually loses to the best male player. This proves that women are generally not as good at chess. If they were, she would beat the top male player in the world roughly half of the time and half of the highest rated players in the world would be women.

I dont see a reason why one would be better than the other. At most you could argue that social influences would put them on different places in the currently evolving meta where a revolving door of strategies beats what is currently popular until the next comes around to beat the new, ad infinitum. None of these strategies are necessarily better than the other just like how paper is not better than rock in rock, paper, scissors just because one wins over the other. Considering the social influence on humans it would thus make sense that taken in a vacuum men and women would thus start at different strategies at least initially with one being better against the other. Once the new meta is established however I would expect equal parity with both sides adopting the same strategies and playing with equal competence.

Well, men's and women's brains are inherently different. It is not PC to say, but men are better at some intellectual tasks than women, such as spacial reasoning.

I have no idea. Based on historical data you may come up with a flawed answer as women were routinely excluded from formal chess matches for a loooong time.
