What do you think about this question about elections?

The governors of Tennessee, Texas and Florida are considering suggesting legislation that prevents newcomers from Massachusetts, California, New York or Illinois, and maybe others, from voting in elections for five years after they arrive. Do you think that's a good idea?

Make community service requirements instead, and not just for newcomers. Force people to demonstrate that they actually want to contribute to making the community a better place for everyone. If they don’t want to do the work, they don’t get to vote. There should also be tests to keep ignorant people from voting, but they can still participate in community service.

honestly, I kinda like it. it's illegal. it's sort of like my neighbors whom put up protective blankets around their crops to keep insects from destroying them. ya have to manage those whom will bring their pollution with them.

That idea sounds problematic. It would basically punish people for moving between states and restrict their basic right to vote, which is a core part of democracy. Voting rules should be consistent and fair, not based on where someone came from.

You do realize that generally speaking conservatives don’t think we should be paying income taxes at all. How would democrats support deadbeats and criminals if they didn’t pay income taxes?

My counter proposal is that we remove all representatives of any state that is a net recipient of federal aid. If you are paying no net federal taxes because of the aid the rest of us are dumping into your Red State shithole, you have no Representation in the House and no Senators until such time as the Shithole State gets it's act together and starts contributing to the economy and federal taxes. No more free lunch for freeloaders in Red Hats.

It is probably unconstitutional but I can understand why they want to do it. Look at New Hampshire and Maine. They were always nice places to live before the liberals from Mass arrived and brought their crazy ideas with them.

Those governors worked very hard To make the states tidy as they are. They don't want freeloaders coming in there and pissing on their parade. I don't think that anyone who has not paid. Federal taxes at some point should be permitted to vote either. That was the way it was in the South up to the Civil War. Land owners could vote. But slaves could not.
