As I understand it in parts of africa names aren't given by parents but by tribal elders. Unfortunately if they don't like your parents they give you names like Hitler or Elephant knob gobbler. Apparently there's tons of people with stupid names that have ruined their lives.

Around here there's thousands of Jones, Owens, and Williams, so it's still common to hear people given work names like Dave the Spade, Bob the spanner, and every bus driver is called drive. Farmer families are often referred to by the farm name rather than surname
