Totally disagree. Gun control supporters should move to totalitarian countries if they want to live in safety without civil rights.

There are more than twice as many vehicular deaths than firearm related homicides every year. There are even twice as many deaths from accidental falls and accidental poisonings. There are over 125 times more preventable hospital deaths. And nobody admits how many people are killed by pharmaceuticals and vaccines.

But "gun control" lobby organizations act like there is a crisis of firearm related homicides. Their claims are hyperbolic and often dishonest because their goal is to disarm American citizens, NOT save lives.

If you could wave a magic wand and make every firearm on the planet disappear, the rates at which people die would not change one bit. People will still kill themselves and each other.
The second amendment gives the people of the US the ability to choose whether they want to lie down and die or stand up and fight. That is the end all, be all source of all liberty. When you don’t have that choice, you have no choice at all.

Interesting question.

At this point I don't think there is much that can or will be done to address this issue ( and I am one to discuss an issues and not give in to simple minded "what aboutisms".

From my POV , I would say:

1) Enact a national background check for every person that wants to buy a gun. Part of that background check should be:

- psychological testing

- criminal background check

This should be repeated on the regular. Say every five years.

If you have ever committed a violent crime no gun for you for at least five years. This can vary from case to case. If you have history of mental problems that needs to be red -flagged.

2) Limits on how many firearms one can own.

3) Limits on how much ammo you can buy in a certain time period.

4) Harsher punishments for brandishing a weapon or making death threats.

5) A strict limit on what types of guns can be sold.

This is more far fetched but :

6) A significant increase in funds for mental hospitals.

7) Each state should have a special court system that deals with people who are deemed unhinged. This should be separate from other criminal. In this court the judge and the lawyers present will have not only legal training but some degree of psychology training.

And more down the line:

fix the economy and reindustrialize the country so that people can have decent jobs again like they used to back in the hay day of blue collar manufacturing jobs ; people could buy a house a have a family. It is hard to do that today since we have become more of a service economy and more people are taking on gig work that have no benefits and is not a consistent income in most cases. Economic desperation leads to a lot of fear and dark thinking in people.

Last , get money out of politics. Until this happens the US will continue to slide down the path of becoming a third world nation.

Yes, I know that this will not stop dun deaths overnight but it's a start.

Honestly, I don't think anything will change since most of our high ranking politicians are in bed with the corporations and when you take someone's money you are beholden to them. Our government works for the rich while the rest of us get the shaft.

America has God given rights. The Second Amendment is a limitation on the Federal Government of the United States of America to prevent interference by the Federal Government with those God given rights to self defense though the use of arms. It is a condition of the compact (contract) which binds all of the states into a Federalized government. If the Second Amendment was ignored, then the Federal Government would be in breach of contract and there would be no union among the states. The Second Amendment was past the year after the first 13 colonies joined the Union to solidify the terms among the states to bind us together. Every state that joined after that, joined under that being a condition of the contract. No Second Amendment, no United States of America. Contract canceled. So if you want to weigh the costs, it's either except a handful of gun deaths a year or resign yourself to your country disappearing and likely finding yourself at war with your neighboring states. Those that have the guns will win and those that neuter themselves into soy tranny bitches that are afraid of the noise the wittle boom boom sticks make will be conquered and you end up right back at the same place with a sustained Second Amendment with fewer states, but all of whom have newly acquired territory.

Dig this! A few years ago, some guy in a church in Texas stood up and started shooting random people in the church. 2 or 3 other guys with guns shot and killed him before he could hurt anyone else!! Had they not been there to stop him, he would've probably killed everyone in the church!! Does THAT weigh out nicer for you?
How about we do this: any time someone commits a crime, we let the police grab `em and toss `em in jail instead of just giving them a scolding and putting them back out on the street to keep doing it!!

I think the issue is more complex than just “agree or disagree.”

The number of gun deaths each year is heartbreaking, and it’s impossible to ignore the human cost.

But at the same time, I understand why people value the Second Amendment, for safety, history, and cultural reasons.

For me, the real conversation isn’t about removing a right, but about creating smarter systems, better education, and safer habits so fewer lives are lost.

It’s not a black and white topic, and I think both sides carry valid concerns.
