I like the wooden stocks but I'm not against fiberglass.

If you’re in the US, you don’t need a license for a shotgun. Unless you attract violence, you won’t need ammo either. The sound of the rack will send most home invaders packing. You can load one blank for a warning shot if the rack isn’t adequate. Then you will want stopping power. In most states, even deep in the red, if an invader lives long enough to get out of your house, you’re in trouble. A twelve gauge is manageable for most people with a little practice and will stop anyone not OD’d on PCP. You want tactical length barrel for maneuverability. If you have to have hunting barrels for legal reasons, you will need extra practice utilizing it tactically.
Join a club and go to the range often. You’ll meet people who can help you understand the ins and outs of firearms legislation and enforcement in your area. Plus you’ll meet people who train tactics and can give you insight there.
Pro tip: know that shooting at people isn’t like it is in the movies. People come back from war zones with PTSD for a reason. Killing isn’t easy. Neither is living with having killed someone, justified or not. Exhaust all your options before going lethal.
12 gauge Mossberg is damn near indestructible and a good value
My husband keeps guns and keeps mine oiled and cleaned.
He bought me a ruger lcr revolver replacing the glock he bought me because im kinda short and light. He makes me go to the range every month
The odds are like 31x greater that you will injure or kill each other before you encounter some type of attack from an intruder.
Can I ask where you get your stats from? I do agree if you are to own a gun you need proper training.
@supercutebutt weve been broke into 3 times. I've been followed me twice and mugged once.
Time to move! Does hubby have a job?
@supercutebutt Just life in a big city. Least here if a group of muslims try to gang rape you then you can shoot them legally.

Get a Maverick 88 that uses 3" shells and holds 8 rounds. It should cost around $240 to $260 and is more reliable and durable than other shotguns that cost 2 to 3 times as much. Use "BB" load shells. It isn't as large as )) buckshot, but is very effective and deadly. Don't use anything smaller/lighter.
If you live somewhere that you can have handguns, the Rock Island Armory M206 is a good handgun for inexperienced people. It is a.38 special revolver that holds 6 rounds. Revolvers are more reliable, don't jam from less powerful rounds, and they don't have a safety to need to operate during a crisis. For home defense that is often enough if you practice a couple times and only use two shots per target. Paint the sights bright orange for easier aiming. Breathe out slowly when firing. Do not hold your breath. Get in a fighting stance and brace/rest your off hand elbow against your side/ribs to steady your aim.
Also, many gun "experts" have no idea what they are talking about for effectiveness. Anyone that tells you that you need an AR 15 for home defense is someone to ignore their advice.
Ok so the iconic Remington pump shotgun will scare people out of your house when they hear it being racked. If the sound doesn’t drive them out looking down the barrel of a 12 gage will make them freeze in their tracks. Best gun if you don’t want to actually have to shoot it. If you shoot it’ll make one hell of a mess.
Really for home defense nothing beats a pistol. Maybe a Glock 45 (9mm) it’s easy to shoot and small enough to hide near your bed. I keep a Glock 23 (.40 Cal) near my bed.
Shot guns are nice but not really great for home defense. Too big and easy to take away from you. But if you are sold on a shotgun read above 😉
Like you said, if the sound is enough to stop them then that's good enough for me 😉 I'd prefer to scare than to shoot.
Thanks for the help
It’s funny even people who never seen a pump shotgun in real life knows that sound. Either from movies or video games and in both people have seen how bad ass the 12 gauge shotgun is.
Best gun to buy and own is no gun at all. Find kill and only heartless psychopaths that like to murder people own guns. All countries should ban all guns like yesteryear. Or no more like yestermillenium.
I wish I could agree
I have a Remington 870 12 gauge. It is a basic shotgun and is pretty straightforward to use.
I have an antique Remington shotgun from WW1 that was passed down the generational line. If works great!
I'll give this one a look, thanks 👍
If you are going to spend time using the shotgun and learning it, then either a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500 is the easy answer. But a pump shotgun does require familiarity to use reliably under stress. A semi-auto requires familiarity AND attention to regular maintenance to be reliable. If you are just going to get the gun and put it under your bed, then get a break action double barrel shotgun. That will serve you well, and is very easy to learn and manage.
ugh, don't know,
definitely get training to follow all the laws and be careful fella! I did in my state and have to seriously question if a gun is worth it, they make it not worth the risk. Their motto should be "if someone breaks into your house, leave and call the police".
Stevens Model 320 Pump Shotgun. It has a front grip.
Winchester Model 12 (if you can find one) Pump action, 7 round magazine (I think)
You don’t need a license to buy or own a shotgun. I personally like anything by Winchester
Benelli Semi Auto.
No knoweledge of guns but if its home it does not need to be too powerful. power costs extra money. Small so it can turn around corners easy not long this is for fields.
Go to Walmart and buy like 50 bajillion of them for 10p like everyone else...
Simples...
Walmart only sells airsoft guns in my area.
A Red Rider BB gun...
Mossberg 500
