Sure, Trump imposed sanctions against Venezuela. So did Biden and Obama. Sanctions have also been imposed by Canada, the UK, the EU, Mexico, Panama, and Switzerland. Most of those sanctions are still in place.
Why? Mainly because of corruption and drugs. Apparently Trump is a liar though. But Biden, Obama and all the other countries are not.
Just for the record, the UK has sanctions against more than twice as many countries as the US. Canada has almost twice as many. Japan has almost as many. Australia and the EU have one and a half times as many. The United Nations has almost twice as many.

You're not wrong about this, but an awful lot of people in the United States actually believe what the government tells them about why they do not kind of thing. They do it for resources and for money and for political popularity. They lie like hell about real reasons.
And exit the United States is not the ruler of the world and just because we make sanctions doesn't mean anybody else has to pay any attention to them or respect them. You seem to think the US and specifically Trump are in charge of the entire world and that is just simply wrong and arrogant as hell.
The problem now is we're so used to lies and misinformation coming from America that it's impossible to know if there was a legitimate reason or just another vulgar display of bravado based on the weakest of premises.
I'm sure over the next few days we'll hear stories of how they were smuggling kittens for the sex trade or small children for S American restaurants. Or perhaps one of the crew had a funny meme about Trump on his phone.

it is more complicated. It will weaken Maduro so hopefully he will just leave the country before he gets hung. Also China had been making a move for mineral rights. We do not need China to be in out backyard.
It was a bold move and it may result in war but to do nothing and just kick the can down the road until the Red Chinese start to make a move on Mexico is not the right move.

Okay, well if us oil companies own the oil then let them hire private security forces to deal with seizing their property. There is no reason that the US government should act as an armed Force in order to increase oil company profits.

@msc545 My Grandfather dropped out of school in the 6th grade to work to support his 3 younger sisters. His first job was as a lumberjack at 12 years of age. His second job was offshore mechanic for Penrod. He retired at 50 years of age with 40 acres of land, two houses, and any number of other assets to his name and fully paid off. How is that possible? Because he was very well paid for his services.

The United States actually drilled most of the wells in Venezuella. We should own them. My Great Uncle actually worked there for several years back when they used to literally drill wells and cap them off for later use, or else cap them off because they had less than expected flow rate. They've been benefiting from US Capitalism for at least 70 years, and yet they hate our guts.

@msc545 Oh, if Venezuela itself challenges the USA, it's going to be quite the spectacle. I don't believe in a Vietnam-like scenario, though. The US logistics are much better now and the trip in is much shorter. And Venezuela, unlike Vietnam, does not have USSR advisors on-site.
As long as there's no repeat of the draft, I kind of hope that Trump gets into a fight in Venezuela. That should fire up the left quite a bit and resolved in his losing the election. If not, getting impeached a lot faster.
