@Melanie31 Probably the only thing I agree with about the Democrats, (If that is even true) I have no faith, and never have since I was a teenager. After studying religion in college, it further solidified my atheist beliefs. There are just too many things in life that do not align with any belief in creation and god.

Simply put, the Democrats see religion as a unifying force that challenges their own power over the citizens. Since they want to hold all the power over the citizens, they are hostile towards any phenomenon that challenges their power. Also, since any religion is more ethical than them, they fear the backlash they might get from the believers among their citizens for their vile acts.

Funnily enough, the Republicans are not much different, only thing is they work together with the religions to control their citizens. It is not an insignificant difference, though, since this approach forces them to be at least a bit more ethical in their decisions, lest they be called out by the very religions they align themselves with. This also means less control, at least in Christian countries, since Christianity puts a lot of emphasis on human free will.

Should a woman have the free will to commit an abortion?
We know abortion is evil, that's not in question. But should they be afforded the same free will to commit sin?

@Ariesman81 I do not believe You can rid people of their free will. Every crime covered by the law, or at least in a conservative law, since the left wing does famously attempt to prosecute all kinds of "pre-crime", under the name of "hate speech", has to be committed in order for the criminal to be prosecuted. Outlawing abortion, just like outlawing murder in general, does not mean nobody will commit it. Therefore, the free will is not infringed on in any way. The only thing the existence of the law changes is that there are legal consequences for having committed murder. To be honest, I'm not in support of outlawing abortion separately. It would be enough if the definition of murder was made broad enough to logically include abortion. Then, the law regarding maternity could lift the responsibility off the pregnant woman (and the doctor) in case her life is in direct danger due to the pregnancy.

Why would democrats be against genuine religion? There is nevertheless a big difference between genuine religious people and political manipulation of religions and fanaticism. When one wants to hit a dog, one does always find a stick.

Maybe all those having a grudge against religious democrats should take the time to read the New Testament. No offence meant.
