Why did the left not care about Greenland being an occupied territory before Trump's second term, and why does Trump want Greenland when we already?

Greenland has been an occupied territory since 1814, roughly when the USA became the USA. The Greenland people are certainly not white, they are not Danish. They are Inuit. Most people have never been to Greenland, I have been to Greenland and I can tell you I still cannot pronounce half of the five or six towns that are there. But I am wondering why the left is so crazy over usa occupying it when it's already an occupied territory, it is already a minority territory occupied by a white Nation. Why was there no free Greenland before Trump? As a Territory was already occupied?

Now for the Republicans, we already have a base on Greenland, the base has been there forever. So the idea that we are sitting ducks from our enemies is a far-stretch. This base is in the middle of fucking nowhere up there, if we wanted to expand it or put more forces there it would be no problem. It would not be like settling in the capital of Nuuk. So on that end it does seem like Trump is really wasting a lot of time and tax dollars. What's the justification otherwise?

Bleeding heart liberal here. Greenland is a nation "occupied" (as you say) by Denmark. Greenland is autonomous and can govern itself within its borders.

Denmark is an allied nation. Greenland is a territory of Denmark. Making Greenland an allied territory. We already have a military base there. There is no need for a military action by the US in Greenland to take control.

As I already stated, Greenland is autonomous and has a parliament to govern itself. Why would they want the US to come in and rock that boat? That would be like Canada taking Puerto Rico.

Greenland is allowed to govern itself and is not an occupied territory as you claim. Greenland is, very literally, allowed to separate from Denmark when and if they choose. They have chosen not to.

You can not call a people occupied when they want to be part of another group even when afforded the option to leave with no penalties at all.

Similarly you can not compare it to if USA actually occupied it - something Greenlanders do not want.

To put it in clearer terms you're comparing a consensual healthy relationship to rape.

Sort of. Denmark provides the difference in their economical balance. Essentially providing them with free healthcare, education and welfare.

Of course Greenlanders cover a sizable portion of this themselves but the benefits arrangement is effectively that Denmark gifts Greenland a bunch of money every year. If Greenland becomes more profitable it might reverse and by then Greenland leaving might be a closer reality.

Outside of that is basic conveniences like being part of EU and NATO, meaning no one in their right mind would ever attack you. You'd need a screw loose for that.

While Greenland might leave this union some day it will probably not be while threatened by USA but rather when they have a guaranteed membership in NATO paired with enough commercial ability to outperform their current arrangement with Denmark.

What does Denmark get from this? Honestly nothing beyond title ownership of the landmass as well as their continued support without demands making up for some historically awful things. Not WW2 awful but forced marriages and alike, still bad stuff. So, mostly Denmark gets to be good people.
