Why do people in the Southern US always go in a frenzy when there's winter weather vs the North and Midwest?

This weekend and last week most of the Southern US got snow and ice, but my part of Appalachia usually gets snow and ice every winter so to us it's just a normal winter. But when it hits people panic buy milk, bread, and eggs for whatever reason. With all the transplants moving south from NY, NJ, PA, and the Midwest you'd think they'd try to educate us southerners about driving in snow and no go into a frenzy about closing everything because shit still goes on in the North or Midwest regardless. Why can't Charlotte or Atlanta handle a winter storm like Chicago or Buffalo

Snow plows and salt trucks. I'm in alaska and the scariest weather is warm enough weather where it rains in the day time but freezing said rain as it gets dark at 3 pm.

We have all the tools to take care of it but if it's a holiday weekend its pretty messy or even a sudden temperature drop that makes it just as messy even with the best of efforts.

A similar thing happens in the summer but northern states have sudden heat then rapped die offs because no one has A/C and the only salvation is movie theaters or gas stations.

I honestly think this northern heat spike is more dangerous than southern freezing up in terms of total lifes lost.

This frenzy is DOING something and making it through a crisis. VS the northern heat crisis being passive and just saying "Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter"

Well you gotta see it through their lens. Its not normal for them. They lived in warmer climates and are accustomed to it. Their infrastructure and tires do not suit winter. Its pretty same in other parts as well. Like in my country every one gets extreme snows and colder temperatures. But we have it a little milder. We freak out when we get 20-50cm of snow and get hit with -25 degrees temperature when other parts get more constant snow and hit with colder weather and look at my region as if we over react

Excuse you, my family and I lost power for 4 days. My grandparents are STILL without power in below freezing temperatures. The panic was warranted this time. Don’t be a dick

they do not have the equipment to deal with snow and they do not know how to drive in it.

Probably because they're not as used to it as Northern and Midwestern people.
