now that i'm an adult and can vote i've decided to become more open minded when it comes to politics. i feel i owe it to this country even tho im not even from here. you know, for the sake of others. anyway, i was raised by a maga mom and a conservative father, and became quite liberal after dealing with spiritual abuse and religious trauma. i've kinda mellowed out to the middle these days. economics i lean conservative, social issues i lean liberal. i choose what i agree with not because it is one specific party, but based on my understanding of truth, right and wrong. i've realised that both sides are kind of nuts and you really have to be discerning.

anyway, now i'm wondering, are any of you the same way? when i see someone who has STRICTLY liberal beliefs, i doubt they've come up with an original thought. same goes for people who are STRICTLY conservative. if you're conservative, what are your liberal beliefs (if any) and vice versa? if you're liberal, do you have any opinions that are generally conservative? or are you all or nothing

Here's the funny thing about those labels. If you look up the the definitions of the WORDS by themselves, you find this:
* Liberal: Favoring reform, open to new ideas, not bound by traditional thinking;
broad-minded
If you ask a Conservative " does this describe you?" They will invariably say "yes".
If you ask a Liberal " does this describe you?" They will emphatically say "yes".

Now, look up Conservative, and you find this:
* Conservative: Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.
Traditional or restrained in style; moderate; cautious.
If you ask a Conservative: "does this describe you?" they will also say " Yes "
If you ask a Liberal " does this describe you?" They will emphatically say "not really"

So a Conservative claims to be both things, including a liberal's traits?

You'll find the Conservatives don't actually DO very little of, or follow the things they claim to. They don't shrink government, they expand it. They don't spend less or are more fiscally responsible at all, they raise the debt more than Dem administrations. They're not the party of "Law and Order", they circumvent it whenever possible or just simply ignore it. And so on.

Now before you maga-meatheads lose your shit, try and understand I'm not saying the Dems are saviors. But there IS a notable difference in the way they govern and what they are willing to spend money on. Even with that said, they're still screwed up too because of too many private interests.

But my point is -- we, the USA, and in this mess because Reaganomics sent us down this road, and every wealthy Capitalist took full advantage of it. They've convinced so many of you that poor people and immigrants are the "problem", and made you believe it's NOT how wealth is being accumulated and citizen's benefits on the most basic levels are being dismantled. Trickle-down was and always will be bullshit. The only thing trickling down right now is generational hate and racism; wealth is going up to those who already have it.

One thing is certain; if you keep on electing criminals and millionaires or billionaires, you should expect the kind of shit you're seeing now. They are experts and fueling the hate, racism and white supremacy still harbored by so many Americans, and this sort of thing plays right into it.

I love this question, because I've always been fascinated by anyone who identifies with the political beliefs of mostly one side, but has that one issue where they align with those who are generally the opposite of them politically.

Even though most of the arguments I have on this site are with insane leftists, I'm definitely not a traditional conservative (beyond the fiscal capitalism component and individual personal rights and freedoms). I'm a moderate, independent, libertarian who mostly leans right-of-center. I support the United States first and I'm against globalists. Meritocracy is the only way to run a successful, thriving society. I fully support LEGAL immigration and I'm vehemently apposed to ILLEGAL immigration. Taxes across the board should capped somewhere between 25% and 33%. The government should be as tiny and as miniscule as possible at all times. I believe in social safety nets, but I also believe in those social safety nets not being abused (we can help citizens who genuinely need help AND eliminate fraud at the same time). I'm legally pro-choice (until around 20 weeks) and morally pro-life. I'm pro "established" vaccinations and against the Covid vaccination. I support the growth of business and an educated middle-class unionized workforce. I'm against loan forgiveness (pay your own damn bills like me and the rest of humanity). I believe that as an adult, you should be able to live your life as you so choose, as long as your choices don't infringe on the rights of others, and I'm also absolutely against gender surgery for minors. Protesting and rioting are two different things (if you riot, you go to jail). I support the First Amendment and I'm absolutely against censorship. I support the Second Amendment and a reliable background check, so anti-Second Amendment nuts have no arguments. I support law enforcement and body cameras. Involuntary mental institutions need to be brought back. Voter identification needs to be implemented. Most importantly, humor and sarcasm rule the day.

abortion is a big one for me. definitely for it. i can't tell if i'm liking the ice situation either. every single story i see is decked in lies and i can't seem to find very many unbiased sources so it's up in the air for me. and for lgbtq i strongly support the gays but the trans thing seems like mental illness to me. lmk if you want me to expand on anything, but i am curious your thoughts

i think "h" was not included in lgbtq+ because the community is meant for minorities. but to your point that doesn't really make it inclusive.

i think id like more clarity on the whole ice stuff, since it's so hard to see the reality through all of these clips and biased reports. part of me feels that ice, in its initial concept, is good, but when i see videos of little girls being tear gassed i really can't find myself in favour of that. i would appreciate the deportation of illegal immigrants if it wasn't so difficult to become a citizen these days. a friend of mine is korean. he immigrated here with his parents when he was in middle school, and that's when he began his citizenship process. he finally became a citizen two years ago. it took from when he was 12 to 26. i think that the money and resources that we are putting into ice should be redirected into speeding up the citizenship process, although i'll admit i am unsure of what that would look like. i also understand that certain populations in america are overrun with illegal immigrants. but yeah, those tear gas videos are super disturbing. not sure how anyone can justify that

I’m impressed you asked. The immigration process is fucked up beyond belief. But it’s been that way for decades and neither party seems to want to fix it. But that’s no excuse to enter the country illegally. Any halfway intelligent English speaking person can fill out all the paperwork without an attorney. But there are lots of online sources that will help people navigate this legalese for free.

"illegal immigrants" seems to also be a loose term. it could refer to just an expired visa or paperwork gone wrong as well. not all of it is intentional

There are a couple hundred different types of visas, and I wouldn’t have recommended that your friend just try for the green card or citizenship.

Maybe get creative and try a student visa, work visa or fiancé visa. So just get your foot in the door and then go from there.

I am none of those. In Canada we have 3 main parties. WE have the Liberals & the Conservatives. Then something called the NDP. They are in my opinion far left leaning. Over the years at one time or the other I have voted for every one of them. Mostly depending on our local politician.

First, the Republican Party no longer exists. And any valid conservative economic ideas died with it. The Republican party threw out the welcome mat for every nutcase group of hate filled malcontent living on the edge of society in the belief that any vote was a good vote and the thought they could control the insanity. Republicans use lies to spread hate and violence in the hope of pulling off a coup to bring down the US government.

Democrats don’t do anything like that. I tend to agree with your general position. I'm left on most social issues (but the left takes it way too far), and I'm fiscally conservative.

The following isn't necessarily what you are, but Libertarianism may resonate with you. I feel like moderate Libertarianism takes the good from the left and the good from the right, but leaves out the other bits they aren't as good.

Keep in mind though when people say "libertarian" people often think of extremes like anarchy, which is why I identify with 'moderate' libertarianism.

It depends on your brain structure at root. To the point that your politics can be inferred by MRIs.

Conservative people have larger amygdala (which is a fear centre) and Liberals have larger cingulate cortexes which is associated with novelty & emotions.

These attributes appear to be inheritable and given parents get you by nature and nurture, you are likely to become more conservative I would suggest. It is possible nurture can still over-ride.

many more abortions are from rape than we realise because rapes are rarely reported. the probability of proving a rape case to be true is less than 0.6% i believe if i am remembering my numbers correctly. i did a whole research report on this last year if you would like me to pull that up. so even if most abortions are not a result of rape, they definitely make up quite a portion, mathematically speaking.

does the patient being a minor change your mind? even if it is not a result of rape?
