The Welsh prime minister has told us we all need to stop watching Netflix and go out on the lash and get totally sloshed to save the country (I may have slightly paraphrased that).
Apparently, the government can't be expected to get leathered for us, and we need to take more responsibility and get totally rat arsed down the tavern all on our own.
But where do you do most of your drinking? Is it a bottle of wine on the sofa with a movie or is it down the pub?
I don't drink much even though I love the taste of a good red wine or a cocktail. When I do, it is usually at a restaurant. But I go to parties on occasion. I never cared for pubs, bars or clubs. And I almost never drink at home.
I drank much more often when I was young, starting when I was 16, partying with friends. Even then, I got much more into smoking weed than getting drunk. I'm a very cheerful drunk, but the after effects suck. Plus, I had a couple of relatives who were boozers and I didn't want to become an alcoholic.
I drink more at home. I like to have my shit more together when I'm around other people. But over the last few years I've drank at bars more than in the past. Diverse people at bars get along. Have some drinks. Listen to some music, even if it's not your favorite. Young, old. Left, right. Whatever.
Stop watching Netflix. Not sure if a bar is the best alternative. But walk out the door into the real world. The screen is not the real world. Out the door is.

i suspect I wouldn't agree with her on a lot of other things, but I totally agree with that. Stop staring at a fucking screen and walk out the damn door into the real world.
Oh! I'd vote for her! Or have a drink with her at least. But not at a pub 'cuz the nearest actual pub (Called bar here) is about 40 miles from us , so I do most all my drinking at home, especially in winter when I try to never actually leave the house anyway. Unless it's to go to the liquor store.
You can still call it a pub. “Pub” is short for “public house”, inns and taverns required by law to accept travelers. This would be different from clubs that might use cover charges, dress codes, drink minimums, age limits, and membership dues to exclude some people. Additionally, a pub is traditionally more like a restaurant and bar than a bar, where only drinks are served. Pubs are gooder.
Public house is a relatively new word only going back to 17th century. Tavern dates back to roman times. Although many English Pub have Tavern in the name it's rarely used in speech but in Wales it remains the official word for a Pub.(tafarn)
We only drink nonalcoholic drinks. While traveling throughout Europe, we did enjoy drinks during our meals. We also went to a pub in London. The beer was good. However, it really isn’t our cup of tea.
I enjoy a nice glass of wine at home while watching a movie or a film series I've been meaning to catch up on. There’s something cozy about relaxing on the sofa, especially if I'm painting or sketching. However, attending art festivals or gallery openings sometimes leads to a drink or two while socializing with fellow art enthusiasts. It’s all about the mood and occasion! 🍷🎨
The Welsh minister would have to come up with another way to get me down to the Welsh boozer because I don't watch Netflix, also unfortunately I don't live in Wales.
I don't usually drink much alcohol at home or when I'm out, but yesterday I had a few drinks waiting for a train, and watching a sporting event on the screens.
I usually have one drink at our lunch time meal at the weekend with my cycling group, but if I don't, I have a couple of beers with two meals at home during the week.
It's nearly always home, with a glass of wine with my midday meal, and in the evening a Trappist beer or a Whisk (e) y while watching some movie on TV. Otherwise, and only now and then, at a restaurant with my brothers or friends.
PS: might seem odd to you, but I never watch Netflix... ;0)
I'm guessing you have the more restrictive drinking driving, blood alcohol, laws in the land of the Wales, where you can only have one pint? With England considering following suit, if I haven't got my wires crossing. So I guess they expect you to get to the village pub in the middle of nowhere, by getting a bus or something at 9pm.
I almost always go out to drink. Otherwise i would never get to socialize. I refuse to be a drunk and a hermit. I watched a news report on the rapid and tragic downfall of pubs in the UK, starting with covid. It’s sad, and i would definitely do my part if i was living there.
I really only have a dram of one whiskey or another a few times a week. I'm working my way through different recommendations, learning to taste them properly. So I recently got a bottle of Powers 3 Swallow Irish Whiskey. I quite like it. So do you enjoy any Welsh whiskeys.. have a recommendation? Heard rumors that they often carry a sweetness, notes of red fruit?
For me, before I started working full time I would do most of my drinking a dive bars with lots of friends. While I was still single but working full time it was a split between the house and more upscale bars with work friends. Once married it was mostly at home.
Perhaps the pubs should have watch parties for the Olympics and major series that everyone watches. They could provide appetizers and perhaps a discount. People could meet new friends and talk about the series.
Go to the bar and pay 6 dollars for a 75 cent beer? I'll pass. The liquor prices are even worse. If 10 of my alcoholic friends went down to the bar, the tab would be over $1000
