This is a good question. Speaking for myself, I don't know if ego is the right term to be used because I know that I have lots and lots of self respect. I am sure there is a difference between ego and self respect although there can be some common points as well.

Yes, I am logical, strict in dealing with others as far as their behaviourial aspect is concerned, I am always alert and I tend to look out for any red flags or negative signs in a person (irrespective of type of relation). It is also true that for me logic, rationale and doing what I believe is right is more important than human relationships.

I am certainly not humble as a person but I treat others normally (unless things are worse and they do something unforgivable). I don't need validation, I don't boast or show off and I don't need attention as well.

Ego and self respect are very closely related but I don't think they are the same. Hence I am not choosing any of the options from your vote.

I try to minimise my ego, psychologically defined.

More id... drive, passion, energy, enthusiasm... is never enough

More superego... philosophy, goals, love, quest for improvement, perfection... is never enough

My ego is the nuisance saying 'that isn't possible', 'what are you even thinking', 'you realise this won't work, right?', 'nobody does that, right?' ... and it's usually wrong.

so essentially, you are saying that your rationality is a nuisance and that you want to minimize being reational. maybe you're just depressed, that's why the supposedly rational part of your brain is always negative? coming to a conclusion that something is bad isn't bad in itself. i come to such conclusions every day in school when certain boys are talking or making an ass out of themselves again. you can still then go on and find some other things good, though.
the ability to judge things as good or bad seems like a life necessity to me

@cherrytreeblossom Returning on this, I still don't follow all you are saying, but... depression is marked by inaction and mechanical, purposeless action all of which comes out of the ego... your id is hungry, the superego tells you not to steal food from others, so your ego sets about making a peanut butter sandwich. Or maybe it says 'this is all too hard'. That's sense in which the ego is 'rational'.

I'm advocating the exact opposite of that. Act decisively. Be true to yourself. Do only what takes you forward, not what holds you back.

I'm not a great writer, truth be told, but I don't think I'm so Sphinx-like that it is straightforward to interpret my words 180 degrees the reverse of what I say. Most of the time. Anyway. All very peculiar.

well now you're saying two different things.
so first your ego has to be minimized, then it is a nuisance always being negative and wrong and all of a sudden your ego is the practical?
why would you want to minimize the practical?
how is being negative AND wrong practical?
i agree on the practical part somewhat, but most definitely not on the first two. "ego is the rational part that mediates between instinct and moral constraints to make practical decisions based on reality." so yes, the ego does make practical decisions, but it has to be based on reality. if you claim that your ego is always wrong, then your ego isn't based on reality and therefore cannot make any practical decisions, therefore not being practical. and if you tried to minimize your ego, then that'd mean that you're minimizing your connection to reality and your ability to make practical decisions, once again undermining your own positions. minimizing your own ego would furthermore result in worsening mediation between instinctual desires and moral constraints of the id and the superego, resulting in you not being a well balanced person but like someone bipolar. and that doesn't sound very practical either.

this is a fun exersize, kinda like maths! :D

omg i just reread your first message where you claimed to be inherently rational and to want to lean against it. let's keep it a bit shorter:
- nobody is inherently rational, being rational is an achievement which differentiates civilised man from cavemen bonking eachother's heads in with clubs.
- being rational is something good, it means you understand reality. if you don't understand reality, you cannot understand the world. being irrational is a mental illness which can even get you locked up. rationality is how humans deal with the world around them, not based on instinct like a dog.
- leaning against rationality means actively making your life worse.

It sort of depends. My ego is normal size or a little bit larger when I'm working, because without any modesty I will say that I am extremely good at what I do, and other people agree with this assessment. On the other hand, when I'm attempting to do some sport like tennis or, god help me, skiing, my ego is really small because I'm just not good at these things. If it's something like chess, a game that requires thinking, I'm extremely good at it and my ego gets a bit bigger. It keeps going like that for different activities and things that I do.
