The US is not some homogenous monolith. We are a fairly large land mass with 50 different state governments amalgamated across, 3 major coasts, mountains, deserts, tropical areas, plains, and frozen northern areas. There are regions with large cities and concentrated manufacturing. There are sparsely populated regions that rely mostly on agriculture. There are areas that are steeped in 250 years of institutional racism and toxic religion. Some of our large cities are also plagued with severe economic inequality and poverty which have similar problems with violence, education, drugs, healthcare and education.

So as other people have said, when you ask about safety, you need to specify what area and what income level and what color your skin is.
