Many churches are organized as a single‑member LLC or a nonprofit where the pastor is the sole officer. This concentrates control over assets in one person. Courts are reluctant to intervene in internal church governance, even when financial abuse is alleged. Pastors who are seen as “spiritually anointed” command high levels of trust and obedience. While tithing is a biblical practice, some churches treat it as mandatory and enforce it through social pressure.
*Tax‑exempt status of churches (501(c)(3)):
Churches are automatically exempt from filing Form 990, which means the public cannot see how much money they collect or spend. This lack of financial transparency can hide misuse.
*Power‑corrupts loop:
As a pastor gains more control over resources, the temptation and opportunity for self‑enrichment increase. Without checks, small abuses can scale into larger frauds.
*Groupthink & loyalty:
Members often self‑censor dissent to maintain community harmony. Board members who are also congregants may hesitate to confront the pastor.
*”Mission‑driven” rationalization:
Some leaders convince themselves that “the ends justify the means” (e. g., using personal funds for church projects, then treating them as “donations”).
* Lack of professional training:
Many pastors are trained primarily in theology, not in nonprofit governance, accounting, or legal compliance. This gap can lead to inadvertent mismanagement that escalates into intentional fraud.
* Why the Problem Appears More Prevalent in the U. S.:
—Scale of megachurches – The U. S. has a disproportionate number of churches with congregations exceeding 1,000 members, generating multi‑million‑dollar budgets that attract both legitimate financial stewardship and potential abuse.
—Cultural emphasis on “personal success” – American evangelicalism often blends faith with entrepreneurial language, making the line between “advancing the Kingdom” and “building a personal brand” blurry.
—Strong religious‑freedom jurisprudence – Courts are especially cautious about intervening in internal church matters, which can slow investigations and limit external audit triggers.
They aren't pastors. They are con men and women who perform for the audience to get paid. They are literally the wolves in sheep's clothing that people are warned about in a lot of religions.
I think that those who get wrapped up in it and give that kind of money are just susceptible to cults and would end up in another one if something were to happen to that one.
It's sad.
Yep!
People generally are desperate to find a place where they feel they belong. That leaves these conmen and women in a great spot to exploit that from the gullible.
Lol sorry
More hateful and ignorant rhetoric, i see. You’re over-generalizing. Lots of people are greedy, and far from all pastors are. There are more priests than pastors, and priests take a vow of poverty and trust in God to provide the basic necessities. Christianity in particular appeals to the greed in people. The bible literally uses comparisons to gold and precious gems to describe heaven. It also doesn’t demand poverty of its followers. It characterizes greed as a sin, but gives greedy people an out by suggesting that wealth can be used to balance injustices. So as long as they’re helping other people, they can help themselves all they like. And they do. It’s kind of a loophole. One of many that make nonbelievers feel like Christianity was developed primarily to keep slaves and the impoverished in check.
If there is a god, those people who reveled in their sins in His name will likely suffer eternity in Hell.
cause america politics/government provide an avenue for basically con artists and grifters to make boat loads of money, gain undue power and influence under the guise of religion. and here in america if you challenge are religious person a large sect of the population will simply label you un-american, an atheist, or something else.

Some belief that wealth is a sign of God's favor. It is primarily associated with
Prosperity Theology (or the prosperity gospel), which is most prevalent in certain Pentecostal, Charismatic, and independent Word of Faith churches. It teaches that faith, positive speech, and donations to religious causes will result in material and physical blessings.
I think all of those wealthy ministers are just skilled actors - con men - who go into business to dupe gullible people out of their money. They also often use their charisma and positions to gain sex from gullible female followers.
All they do is take advantage. They are not true followers of Christ. They are the opposite of Christian.
Yes, there's a lot of problems or can be. because they receive a lot of $, don't know what to do with it, don't want to live poorly, maybe they are corrupt.
Pastor one of the highest failure rate jobs... they get grief often, constant problems... how much is that worth to be paid for? They have to do battle with a lot of complexity dealing with difficult humans all week... I used to do that, various volunteer ministries.
They can do a lot of good, but it's not easy to manage. no excuse for using people or making themselves rich. I don't give to them. Some chose this life and lived amoung everyone else, on modest salaries, etc..
Don't just look at those that got caught up in society, but it is so easy to do.
Part of the reason I quit going to church 20 years ago. I still believe but today is modern day Church system is not what God intended. And the Bible the early church met in their homes to encourage one another then went out into the world to preach the gospel. Today the church wants to have a building and put a sign out front and invite the world to come to them so they got it backwards. And yeah the greed is off the charts tithing is not even for the church today
Well when millions of people vanish off the earth I want you to remember this okay it was not aliens that abducted us and took us away for retraining our brain s it was Jesus coming for us. And don't take the mark of the beast if you do you're doomed to Hell forever
As opposed to the bleeding heart pastors of other countries?
Every clerical institution is riddled with corruption
It’s an inevitable outcome to having such an unchecked social influence
And the powers that be never do things with nuance.
It’s either ban religion altogether or let it run wild
No one thinks to regulate their activities instead
Allow their work but ensure they don’t turn into greedy goblins
That's the end stages of capitalism, in the heartland of capitalism, when everything is turned into for-profit. Education for profit, healthcare for profit, law enforcement for profit, penal system for profit, religious worship for profit... boy, it must be paradise. Us poor communist-socialist Europeans can only marvel in envy.
You left out Joel Osteen's pic. He lives in a 27,000 sq ft mansion. Have you ever seen him read passages out of the Bible? He is a complete con man.
Hopefully his followers wake up.
Also excused buying himself a Ferrari to 'deliver god's message faster'
Most pastors are god fearing, believing that life is to short to worry to much about worldly possessions especially when being a greedy thieves will not enter the gates of heaven. Christains believe idolizing money and stealing are both great sins. Those pastors can't be true believers in God's judgement.
I like to think they will burn brightest in Hell.
People who can only sling BS and have an appetite for the good life either sell major software packages or sell religion. They can be motivational and even insightful (perhaps stolen thought) but what they are doing is clearly wrong.
A woman once blabbed to my late Uncle Ronald in Detroit about her pastor's possessions. Uncle Ronald got tired of hearing it and one day said,"You stupid b***h, he got it from you idiots!!" About 75% of ministers are pervs and/or swindlers, and it's always been that way;they steal from their stupid flock and screw the broads, even the fat ones !!!
because that's America...

You should listen to the author and not focus on individual humans.
Read what JESUS said. He is the author.
They exist because people fall for their deceptions. No one forces parishioners to hand over the money. It's sad because I'm sure they wouldn't if they weren't blinded by their charisma.
Your allegation is much too far broad brush. Yes, they're a bad actors on any stage. Just like there are vindictive posters on Girls ask Guys.
I don’t mind some, the ones that think the bible isn’t literal history, the ones that stand up for human rights, the ones who understand the world is NOT 6000 years old, don’t spread misinformation about vaccines and the medical field, ones that understand making a woman carry her rapists baby is immoral, defenders of gay and transgender people, don’t promote a theocracy to replace democratic values.
Those Christians I do respect
Not ALL of them are, and it's not just an American issue
https://www.youtube.com/embed/BE3kJeBr9QINot just American pastors.
All false teachers and prophets are greedy for money as the Bible clearly teaches and to warn to stay away from them.
I don't know that because I don't hang around him nor talk to him except to say hello.
If he is stealing or doing whatever wickedness then that's on him and if I find out then I leave that church.
I only give $1 into the offering plate once a week, because I don't believe into giving more than that into religious organizations because I know they love money and are greedy for money literally all of them.
You think that doesn't happen in your country? Time to wake up and smell the bacon, and not that ham you guys call bacon
What makes you think CEO's and politicians are different?
They learn their behavior from the greatest grifters of all: Leftist politicians, limousine liberals, and champagne socialists.
I imagine that not all of them are crooks but the ones that are millionaires probably are.
Pastors are people. There are very good ones, very bad ones, and ones in-between.
can't blame them for using religion for it's intended purpose.
It's a business, and they're great con men and women.
Why are people still stupid enough to give them money?
They are workers of inequity. Not true ministers
While we cannot generalise but in every organisation their are greedy people they their only for the pay check and not out of sincerity
Come to the Catholic Church
Why? Because the religion itself is a lie.
Because there isn't a consequence
The first guy looks like a literal demon!
yup i remember him. he just radiates evil
