Do you know the difference between R. O. C. and P. R. C?

R. O. C. and P. R. C. are abbreviations of the official names of Taiwan and China respectively. As far as I know, R. O. C. is a de facto democratic capitalist country although not prevalently recognized, while P. R. C. is a dictatorial communist one-party state.

Another important difference is R. O. C. is U. S. A.'s friend while P. R. C. is enemy.

Yes, I know the difference. I also remember when the PRC was formally recognized as the sole legal China, delegating Taiwan to a minor role. It was pretty controversial at the time.

Back then, China was commonly referred to as "Red China". You can even hear it named that way in some older songs. If I remember right, Eve of Destruction uses than name.

Taiwan ( what I learned as Formosa in school ) is still friendly with the US. I think the US should formally recognize Taiwan as an independent country. If the US did, I think a lot of other countries would also.

When I was teaching English to foreign students, I had a student from Taiwan. One of the first things she said to me was "Taiwan is not part of China". She wanted to make sure I knew that right from the start.

I've been to both countries, Taiwan (Republic Of China) and China (Peoples Republic of China).

Taiwan was formed when Chang Kai Shek and his capitalist followers fled Mainland China, which was taken over by Mao Zedong and his communist followers after World War II.

Ideologically, Taiwan has claimed that Mainland China is a rogue province of Taiwan, while China considers Taiwan to be a rogue province of China.

Until 1972, when US President Richard Nixon recognized Mainland China, Taiwan was a member of the United Nations and held a seat on its Security Council. That all changed when Mainland China replaced it

Very much so and the differences could not be bigger. The historical names for them are Free China and Red China.

I usually only read and hear Taiwan stated rather then ROC.

Communist one party regime and liberal democracy like you write. Another difference is about human rights. In one of them priorities of the regime is above human rights and the another one respect basic human rights more. Allies are another issue. R. O. C. is under USA protection. PRC is one of founder members of BRICS and an important part of third world e. t. c.
