Fascism is not just "(overly) strict enforcement of law and order", it's creating of laws that uplift the in-group and penalise the out groups (which often include people in favour of democracy).

Fascism prioritizes the country’s economy, safety, and welfare of the people above all outside influences or foreign presence that’s disrupting the these things


That’s why it became so popular in Germany in the 20’s and 30’s
Take a place that had lost a war, didn’t have an army, and every neighbor was smacking it around and showing it’s people 0 respect


Then give them hope with an idea that they are superior to all those around them and by banding together under a strong and strict regime they will prevail and be the dominant force.


And the promise was largely kept before the start of the war.
Germany was at the height of its power.
A prosperous economy, jobs, scientific advancements, a true age of enlightenment.
It even hosted the olympics and made it into a grand spectacle.


So on paper and in actuality fascism worked like a charm.


The problem is that prosperity for the few requires the oppression of others
There’s simply not enough land and resources for everyone to live comfortably


And while communism suggests splitting all resources equally between all people, fascism prefers culling the heard to until resources are enough.


And that proved to be the biggest flaw in the model. Because it required war and war is costly.
So the thing that was uplifting a society became the very thing that plunged it into despair

Massive government spending helps any economy, but it doesn't have to lead to war, and it shouldn't only benefit the in group. (Biden's Inflation Reduction Act sent more money to red states than blue, because they needed it more.)

Paraphrasing Hitler he said that were if it not for race, Nazism would be indistinguishable from Internationale Communism. Mussolini, observing that socialists aligned on patriotic grounds in WW1, and not on workers of the world unite, chose to make chose to make the State the centre piece.

Both were were Marxist. In internationale Communism the victim was the proletariate. In Chinese communism it was the peasant. In Nazism it was race. In fascism it is was the state. In feminism it is women.

Left thought did not begin in 1848 with Marx's Communist Manifesto (have you read by the way?). Well before then, there were thoughts on how to deal with the social consequences of the Industrial revolution which were loosely classified synonymously as socialist or communist.

In fact there were so many bloody theories, it was felt necessary to hold the First Socialist Internationale to unite thought. Marx expected (because he had an enormous ego) it would endorse his intellectual superiority. But NO. Marxism was just another framework. Everybody disagreed with everybody - and it dissolved into a mostly peaceful (with fulsome irony) angry mess up (1864).

War was declared as the saying goes (WWI). Whilst there was some debate that workers of the world should not shoot at other workers of the world, Socialists quickly got into it. The Second International 1889-1914 fell apart as Socialists started fighting each other on national lines.

Mussolini, the most influential Italian International Communist, took note of this and concluded that nationality was the most unifying force. So he swapped out the proletariat out as the central oppressed class and substituted Italy as latter day Roman State for the oppressed class since they had been oppressed since 400 AD.

Lenin wrote a short nasty note castigating Italian Communists for kicking Mussolini out as Musso was the only capable one amongst them. All the others weren't worth shit according to Lenin.

The Third International was mostly about supporting Russia and successfully fractured Socialists from is now recognized Communism i. e the proletariat is the oppressed class and it is OK for the proles to oppress peasants by stealing their harvests and causing them to starve to death.

This opened the door to anyone with enough persuasion, to define a oppressed class and to define society as existing to support a state of elites who know how to run a society (which was Lenin's major contribution ).

The State is the People and the People are the State with the corollary that is an Elite who know how best to run things has been a much beloved concept with dictators and authoritarian gov'ts the world over. Yeah it wasn't exactly new, but it was a good re-imagining of divine right by Lenin.

So the door was open. Musso subsituted the latter day Roman State for the proles and created fascism. Hitler, after being slighted by Musso over a personally signed pic, decided to substitute in Germans for the proletariat and invented National Socialism (Nazi).

Hitler made a couple of significant statements. 1. "I learn't everything I needed to know from Marx" 2. If it weren't for the concept of race, National Socialism would be indistinguishable from International Communism

So both Fascism and National Socialism, as defined by their founders, are in the Marxist framework. Therefore they were Marxist. Therefore they were Left wing.

FFS, Stalin (and the Soviet Union) called every other other version of Marxism, Fascists shortly after the Soviet's won the Russian Civil. That included Social Democrats, as well as Nazis, as well as trade unions, in addition to the people who did call themselves Fascists.

In case you don't know, Syndicalism emerged from the Trade Union movement as did Social Democracy.

Mussolini took Syndicalism and made it National Syndicalism. Aside from Mussolini's apostasy, all these political movements were competitors to International Communism and needed tarring.

By 1945, it was certainly revisionist re-imagining of the past especially wrt to political movements from the previous century that were approaching 80 years old by then. I daresay the author of the Army wanted to keep it simple and copied an allies terms.

In reality Stalin's use of the term Fascist never meant much in his time anymore than it does now when used neo-Stalinists today.

Fascism isn't some fixed set of beliefs. Different groups of fascists will have different beliefs based on their circumstances. Fascism is the way authoritarian brains approach any circumstance.

No, Fascists are concerned primarily with seizing power in one country and ruling with an iron fist under the banner of "Nationalism". Mussolini was fat dumb and happy in Italy back in the 1930's. Franco was fat dumb and happy in Spain in the same time period. Stalin was fat dumb and happy with ruling Soviet Russia with an iron fist.

The Nazi Party in Germany was all about avenging the loss in the first world war and the treatment in the Treaty Of Versailles and bringing Germany back to its former glory.
