Trending & News I could have retired for life 10 years ago at age 49. But I know me. I get bored really easily. So I stay active with consulting for banks, hedge funds, and private equity, and some manufacturing businesses. But the great thing about running a consulting business where clients come to me by word of mouth only is that I can be very selective about what I work on and who I work with. I can choose the interesting problems and pass on boring, time wasting crap with people who are doomed to fail. It works for me. I can choose how much I take on and when. And it's always interesting puzzles.
i could find other things than employment to occupy and fulfill me
travel, service, etc. ya know? heck being a married father of two i could probabyl find enough house projects to occupy me for years
Considering I'm a writer, if my spouse had the money to support both of us, I would spend majority of my time writing so I wouldn't go insane not working because that would be my job.
Probably not even a couple of months. When I used to work only part time I'd go crazy some days trying not to get bored with all my free time.

Truthfully, I colected unemployment afteer getting laid off during Covid. I was one of the people you read about that actually made out better on unemployment than I did while I was working. I also got a lot of home improvement projects done My benefits ran out after 18 months so I had to find a new job. I tried to keep rhe gravy train going but I could not make it happen but it was pretty sweet while it lasted
If we had the money, I could go for the rest of my life. If I get restless, there's always "hey, need a little help"? To neighbors and volunteer jobs, or just a some seasonal stuff.
Besides that, I'd spend tons of time with my family, take them places and all. But that's not how the world operates, we gotta work or we starve
I've been unemployed since Dec. in `19 and I'm not the least bit crazy!!
By the way, is there a cougar or a panther up my nose right now?
I think I could go on forever. I have lots of hobbies and rarely ever feel bored.
I have so many goals and activities I could retire right now and be very content.
i would go nuts if i did not work even 4 days!
I could do nothing for a long time...
About 1 year. I actually enjoyed it.
