If you had enough money to not have to work for the rest of your life would you stop working?

I already DO have more than enough money to never work a day in my life, yet here I am one year into my six year education to do my dream job! People need a purpose in life. A life without purpose is just meaningless, regardless of how much money you have! It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people who believe that if they only had a lot of money, then all their problems would be solved! Wrong! Money does solve the most basic needs of life, like food, shelter and security. But there are SO many other issues in life that money cannot solve. Just think of all the types of questions we get here… None of them have anything to do with rent, mortgage, utilities, or buying food!
Human beings need a sense of purpose, and work provides that. Not to mention that what a wast of a life, to just live your life only ever selfishly providing for yourself? You have your basic needs met, so to hell with helping anyone else! That is just such a foreign concept to me, that I could never even imagine living life like that. I want to leave this world a better place than it was before I was born. I strive to help as many people as I possibly can. My money will allow me to help that kid whose parents cannot afford therapy, it will allow me to set up a sexual abuse program based on whatever you can afford, yet still be the best therapy money can buy! And it will allow me to hire multiple therapists to actually serve my community, and not just exist in it! So, no! Despite my trust fund, I would never just not work… that, to me, would be the worst imaginable way to live! And anyone who does believe that never working again would be a good thing, needs to find a more rewarding career.
How do you possibly have that much money?
@jcampbell115 I have a trust fund.
@Pete671 Thank you Peter, although I have had some great struggles in my still short life, I have still been blessed with more than anyone could ever deserve! Thank you so very much for your kind words, Laura 😘 💋
Nope. I think I would go insane if I didn't work
I haven’t worked for a few years, not sure if or when I’m going back, depends on a bunch of things…. but as someone who is at least in Retirement Fantasy Camp, this is THE SHIT. I feel the stress of things being too hectic on days where something trips me up so I can’t play hockey, go to the gym, AND go fishing in the same day. Champagne problems🍾 I love playing hockey, and I could play it 5 or 6 days out of the week if I wanted to, and two hours of public hockey, the time getting there, the time getting changed in and out of your gear and showering, that’s like 4 hours right there. Couple more hours at the gym, and fishing, forget it, nothing makes time fly like fishing. I’ll think I’ve been out 2 hours or something, I’ll check my phone, and it’s really been 5 hours. Stopping for meals, that pretty much fills a day. And I never get bored with any of it, I love routine. Work just takes up hours of my day that I could be spending on recreation and physical activity. It particularly messes with hockey, because most public hockey sessions are in the middle of the day on weekdays when the rink is just looking to get any kind of income while the youth players are in school and the beer league guys are at work, it’s all booked up when you’d normally have free time. And when I play beer league, it’s late at night, I might get out just before midnight. So having a real job is absolutely out of the question if I want to play a lot of hockey. Maybe I can drive for Uber or something, lmao. “1-Star…. the car reeks like sweaty hockey equipment”😂
I would never work again. I would probably still do 'work'. But even just the knowledge that I am doing it by choice and because I want to makes it a whole different thing.
Of course I would find some passion project rather than something that feels like the same old.
I think that even for the people who would keep working, it is no longer working.
My highschool economy teacher was a short little woman who owned 5 or so successful companies. Had more cars than I have pants. She chose to teach because that was her idea of fun. Only asked for a token salary and perks. Coincidentally she always comes up as one of the best teachers I ever had - despite her reading one chapter ahead of us and me having to literally fact check her during class.

I'd start a business or buy one... have people working for me to make more money, and work when I felt like it. In the meantime I'd take off time to travel and explorer, work on my bucket list and such.
That is if I had another 50 years or so... in my current situation, I'd just not work again and finish my bucket list.
That's my dream, tbh. But to stop working and just sit in my... car on the ride to another state to visit? Nah. It would get boring. Also not working for nobody is still the dream but it's where I interact with people, good or bad. And where I can drop bombs of what I had for breakfast
Instead of being a cog in the machine in the public school system, I’d love to open a charter school. Not having to deal with all the union bullshit would make everyone’s lives who are involved so much better and more fulfilling and easier, plus the students would learn so much more that is actually useful to them.
I'm not working at the moment but I had enough money to not work for the rest of my life I still would work. I would need to be busy and life is unpredictable so I could lose all of my money. Better safe than sorry.
Nope I would still work.
if not my current job, then would do volunteer work or set up a place for less fortunate to get food, learn life skills, improve their chances in life.
I would probably try to volunteer somewhere but wouldn’t work for the money. Just to prove to myself that I can work.
I probably wouldn't work again. I would use my time to travel and I would spend more time with my family. I would also pursue any other hobbies or interests I have.
Is never work again. No need to chase money you already have. I'd buy a big motorhome and drive around until I have seen all of the US and Canada. I'd drive all the way down to South America if it was safe but I like being alive.
I'd still work probably part time and volunteer somewhere.
Hell yeah I am tired of being a student. However I don't wanna stop working on my passion.
Yeah I'd probably keep my job or if I was very rich I'd buy it just so I can do and say fucking anything
Yeah but like part time or something
Absolutely fucking lutely
No, I love what I do too much to quit
I do and yes I stopped working
D - I'd still work just not at my present job,,,
I won't stop working until the day I die.
I would start my own business...
No thank you, what I (will) do is my passion
Nope.
