Live alone vs living in company. Which one are you? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of either option?

I very recently became widowed, with our adult son having bought his own home a couple of years ago, so I'm alone now for the first time in 35 years.

I lived alone as a confirmed bachelor (or so I thought) for a number of years before then.
I enjoyed the solitude back then, with rare occasions of feeling slightly lonely.

This time around, with the situation being much different than when I was younger, being alone is not as enjoyable as I once found it to be.

After much internal struggle, I've finally realized that, as a human being, I need people.
What a revelation that was for me.

As far as the pros and cons go, I could write volumes on the subject.
I won't even attempt to list even a few here now, though.
It'd just get my mind racing, and I'm pretty tired right now.

@thegreenyogi presently, I live alone but there are advantages of both, as I was married and after that lived with a college classmate. It is nice to have a 'partner' in my life, someone who, shares my interests, and goals, and enjoys going, doing, looking, seeing, other places and things. Living alone, means that is not possible, but I do enjoy my own company, and the activities I enjoy, especially my Yoga classes, and ballroom dance classes.

I think both have their own beauty.

Living alone can teach you independence, self-awareness, and peace with your own thoughts.

It gives you space to grow and understand yourself better.

But living with someone you truly connect with can bring warmth, shared moments, and the comfort of not facing life completely on your own.

For me, the ideal balance is being able to enjoy my own company, but also having someone whose presence makes life feel a little softer.

The thing I like most is the peace and quiet.

And if I get in the mood to blast my music 🎶 really loud, there's no one here to tell me to turn it down.

I don't have to talk if I don't want to.

I don't have to explain to anyone what I am doing.

I just do whatever I please and can even go pee with the door 🚪 open.

I would choose to live alone over anything else. Easy to clean because you're just cleaning after yourself. No noise polution because outside your own farts... unwanted noise is not there.

Nobody complains when you are drinking too much and keep masturbating in the livingroom with Too$hort blasting on the stereo, porn on the TV, and your loud grunting when you're wiping off the leftovers on the window curtains while the neighbor's kids are looking.

I should be moving into a flat pretty soon and it will be my first time living alone going to be great.
Disadvantages be cost I guess but lucky I don't need to worry about with it being council and me on Limited capacity to work, another is talking to my dad less I guess, and maybe stealing some food, and yes bills for wifi and that will exist but it won't be much.
Advantages, I can vape whenever, and be on my schedule, invite anyone over whenever and space, to designing how I want my place to be.

Living alone is great because you have all the rooms and equipment to yourself, and you can decorate the space however you want. You don’t really have to shower since no one else is around, and you can fart whenever and wherever you want in the house or apartment. You have more freedom and don’t have to adjust to others.
As long as there are people who bring you things to take care of you, and you have enough money for some entertainment you live almost like a fetus in the womb.

Living in company is great. I have never lived on my own before. I've either lived with family or with my bestie. I currently live with my bestie and it's honestly great. For my mental health, I honestly couldn't imagine living on my own right now. Maybe once I'm mentally better but it's honestly fun having a roommate especially one that is your best friend who feels more like family than just a friend. We're like Romy and Michele!

Was never alone until the last year and a half and it’s definitely peaceful with no stress but it’s different because there was always someone around like family or when I was married years ago, someone just to talk to, so I wish I could find the right companion but the wrong one is ten times worse than being alone

I liv w/my mom. When she dies I will liv alone. Advantages of livin alone r more freedom. Don't hav 2 worry about problems like someone losing, givin away or throwing away your stuff u want. Disadvantages of livin alone r if u need med. help it may come 2 late 4u n u can b in pain or die.

I have three roommates. It is nice to have social interaction. I do miss having my own personal space, however.

I live alone now and would not like to live with others in some communal arrangement. Living with a partner and family would be ok though

I've had roommate's and lived alone, when I was younger, company was nice, as I got older, I enjoyed my time alone. Then I got married and had a kid, so back to company!
