Nicolae Paulescu was a Romanian doctor who in 1916 discovered and sucessfully isolated the protein that produces insulin. However, because of his anti-Semetic views, he was denied the Nobel Prize and the prize and credit were given to two Canadians who did the same thing 5 years later.
I heard over 15 years ago that Paulescu discovered it, but now in these crazy times, even Google gives credit to the Canadians, unless you specifically type Paulescu's name, and now it is said that the Canadians discovered it.
Do you think Paulescu should still be honored and agknowledged for this important medical breakthrough? Okay, he was an anti-Semite, but he still discovered it. And the crazy thing is, Hitler still gets credit for the Autobahn. We wouldn't be able to treat/manage diabetes, if it wasn't for Paulescu.
Should Nicolae Paulescu be honored for his work in diabetic research?
Anti-Semitism has nothing to do with his research, he didn't kill anyone and in those days Jews were discriminated against all over Europe. But at the same time Jews had numerous synagogues in the country to carry out their religious activities. He didn't persecute them, his opinion towards Jews is his personal one, but that has no reason to overshadow his scientific merits.
I'm not surprised. A lot of black people do and also suffer from obesity. It's because a lot of them have a low income/food stamps and only have access to junk food/fast food.
I live in an assisted living centre where the food isn't bad, and only one-fifth (still far too many) of African Americans are poor. Most are at least middle class, a few (far too few) upper middle class or wealthy.

The Nobel Committee is political as much as merit based. It's a human construct. There's no getting around that.
