Happens all the time.

Helen Keller advocated for eugenics. While revered for overcoming disability and advocating for social justice, Helen Keller was a proponent of eugenics, a doctrine central to Nazi ideology. In 1915, she defended a physician who allowed a "deformed" baby to die, arguing that the life of the baby was "not worthwhile" and that it was better for the infant to die than to risk becoming a "potential criminal" or burden. She used the same argument of removing "defectives" to improve the human race that was later used to justify involuntary euthanasia.

Mahatma Gandhi embraced racial bias. He is a global icon of peace and anti-colonialism. However, during his time in South Africa, he frequently used derogatory language toward Native Africans, labeling them as "uncivilized" and arguing against treating Indians on the same level as them, arguments that aligned with white supremacist views of that era.

I could go on and on.

The Venn diagram of overlapping views often creates strange bedfellows. Oversimplifying based on limited data points can easily draw flawed conclusions.

This is not "limited data." These are legal arguments from white supremacists from the 19th century being used in 21st century court arguments. It doesn't "happen all the time." The Trump Administration is following Project 2025 to the letter. If the SCOTUS supports Trump's arguments, the "flawed conclusions" will be the legal backing of racist policies that will utterly destroy the continuation of a multiracial and multiethnic democracy in the US. The movement of white supremacy will cheer the downfall of birthright citizenship.

Racists wanted college entrance to be based on color, while civil rights activists promoted standardized testing to ignore race is.
Fast forward—modern day activists want to diminish standardized testing for entrance because of the very fact that it ignores race. They want race to be a factor just as white supremacists wanted race to be a factor.

Likewise, the “color-blind” society advocated by MLK was rejected by modern day progressives that said to be color-blind was to deny “lived experiences”. They want to recognize color just as white supremacists wanted to recognize color.

The point is there are plenty of areas where modern-day positions use the arguments of the past to advance their current agendas. It doesn’t mean their motivations are the same. That’s the error you make by drawing conclusions from superficial comparisons.

You could have just as easily asked, “Why do virtually all western nations support white supremacy by denying birthright citizenship.”

And then after that, “Why do virtually all Asian countries support Asian supremacy by denying birthright citizenship.”

Your false equivalence is leading you to a logical fallacy. But maybe that’s a feature and not a flaw in your way of thinking.

I will give you this... you do provide a long and drawn out argument supporting the view that "white supremacists" want to recognize color as "modern day progressives" do. That's TRULY a poor comparison! Have you read any of the arguments of the white supremacists who penned these arguments (individuals who owned slaves and completely believed in white supremacy)? You are completely ignoring the recent and current effects of racism. MLK FULLY recognized that "lived experience" can't be ignored. NEWSFLASH!!! You can acknowledge "lived experience" and fight for a "color blind" society simultaneously!!! I know that may shock you! Obviously, we have a long way to go!!! Otherwise, there would be no need for Civil Rights laws... During WW2, the Japanese Imperial government TOTALLY promoted the racial superiority of the Japanese. It's still CALLED RACISM!!! I’m glad you acknowledge my point. Both white supremacists of the past and progressives of today have pushed for similar policies (recognizing color) but that doesn’t necessarily mean their ends were the same. A conclusion you quickly jump to with your own specious argument.

And why do you use WW2 era Japan as an example of racism? Why not Japan today? Or literally every other country on the Asian continent that denies birthright citizenship with the sole exception of Pakistan. Is that your argument? Every Asian country, outside Pakistan, is a racist, fascist state because they deny automatic birthright citizenship? Seems very racist of you.

And apparently every nation of Europe is equally racist and fascist for denying automatic birthright citizenship. Andcwe might as well add that almost every country in Africa denies automatic birthright citizenship with a few small exceptions like Chad. Birth right citizenship was literally invented to stop white supremacists from keeping the black population from getting the right to vote after the Civil War. It was the pro-black vote who were explicit that it was meant only to help them and not to let anyone who happened to be born here get citizenship.
