Why won’t the US pursue mutual nuclear disarmament and security guarantees with Iran?

According to Vance, the reason is that Iran will not commit to not developing nuclear weapons in the future. I think that perhaps if the U. S. committed to not attacking countries that didn't pose a threat to the U. S. and also if the U. S. committed to destroying its own stock of nuclear weapons and not developing any new ones, then Iran would probably go along with these conditions.

I Can't figure out why the U. S. won't do any of this, can you?

The reason that the Iranians want the ability to develop uranium and to construct nuclear weapons is because they want to defend themselves against any further attacks by the U. S. This is the only way they can do that. If the U. S. did not have a history of attacking countries that have resources that it wants or political systems or social systems that it doesn't like, then this would not be necessary. The U. S. has exactly that sort of history.
