Are you allowed to walk around barefoot in your house?

Question

I used to have an uncle who, for some reason, refused to let anyone go barefoot in his house. I guess he had some screwy idea that your bare feet might dirty the carpets! I would think shoed feet would be more likely to dirty a carpet! Your feet are usually encased in socks and shoes, keeping them clean but, your shoes are walking all over the place collecting dirt, animal shit, sputum from people that spit where you walk, germs from garbage, etc..

I grew up in a place where everyone kept their shoes on when visiting someone else’s home and when we expected guests we would go put our shoes on as well so that we’re not dangling our feet in their faces (unless it’s a hot summer day and everyone is in flip flops or sandals)

I know that it’s technically dragging in dirt from the outside but for some reason most homes were always clean and fairly easy to clean

Now I live in a city where people take their shoes off when they visit one another and if I don’t deep clean my home every single day it gets very dusty at an alarmingly fast rate

How clutter was his place? If he was also asking people to double check tetanus shot then 100% checks out. Loose nail got stuck on the edges of the carpet and it's for your safety because it's as dangerous as a garage. Hey it's his place. Fair enough

If it's about upkeep on regular carpet that is ass backwards logic. The foot traffic on the cleanest of shoes will flat out destroy that carpet.

In my home if you wear footwear then you're dead. Either bare foot or slippers for those whose feet hurts but the slippers are washed often and sun dried too. And everyone is allowed to wears slippers or socks during winter because walking barefoot on marble then is hell.

I have gone barefoot at home since my surf days. Walking on hot boardwalks and streets have given me thick calluses. Back in the day, I stubbed out the occasional cigarette with my heel. I wear slip on shoes without socks outside. My feet stay dry and don't smell cheesy.

Both my wife and I can wear shoes or go barefoot in our own apartment any time we want. Any guests would be encouraged to keep their shoes on. Personally, I always have either my shoes or slippers on... except for bed or shower of course.

Yupp, we are allowed to roam around barefoot... in my opinion roaming around with footwear on is more unhygienic, unless and until you clean your footwear daily..
