To qualify for Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID) in Canada, a person must:
Be 18 years or older and capable of making health decisions.
Be eligible for publicly funded Canadian health services.
Have a grievous and irremediable medical condition, causing intolerable physical or psychological suffering.
Make a voluntary request free from external pressure.
Provide informed consent after being informed of all treatment options, including palliative care.
Currently, individuals whose sole underlying condition is a mental illness are excluded until March 17, 2027, pending further safeguards and system readiness.

I asked a question about this, the statistics on Canadian government assisted suicide are appalling. Over 76,000 by the end of 2024. They are not releasing the latest data. According to the Canadian government website, over 2000 people with no medically foreseeable death died from government assisted suicide, but that was information from a couple years ago. Hey Canadians, you have a problem.

It doesn't work like that. It really needs to be a thouroughly documented, extreme, uncurable/unmanageable cases where quality of life is entirely compromised.

Some cases can, and will be rejected after analysis. Each one of them is scrutinized heavily by more than one health professional. Not all doctors are authorized to green light it and the patient remains the ultimate decider as he/she can change her/his mind at any time: even at the moment when it's about to happen.

These individuals had serious and incurable illnesses, diseases, or disabilities, but were not considered to be in a terminal phase, representing 4.4% of all MAiD provisions that year.
This was a slight increase from 2023, when 625 people (4.1% of cases) received MAiD under Track 2.
