m 2 moAdvertisement collapses first.
Which triggers the fall of for profit internet, all popular social media go bankrupt, as well as major players like Google. We're back to 90s internet, where nobody wants to use it anymore except the most nerdy folks.
Decentralised forums get popular again, web pages now load instantly since tracking scripts that drained resources are now abandoned. All people working closely with internet probably lose their job, like marketing & web developers. Wikipedia tries to survive on donations, but it's unlikely they will, unless a sufficient amount of teachers maintain infrastructure costs.
With the fall of for profit internet, global capitalism takes a hit so hard that consequences propagate all along the food chain, millions lose their job in a desperate attempt for companies to survive, economic growth is crushed, worldwide recession follows. Riots explode in every developed countries, religious leaders take control, as well as the military.
Gradually, everyone starts to regret the good old times, when capitalism was a thing. When we had modern medicine, supermarkets, and scrolling or swiping internet to maintain our anxious minds desperately trying to defeat the void inside us all.
Which doesn't bother the most religious among us, because they have faith in God, that faith acts as a void filler. So they're now the ultimate survivalists, unstoppably growing crops and making babies.
Earth becomes heaven manifested.
The end.

2 moWell, let’s be specific here. Are we talking about just straight lying via verbal and text communication, or all forms of deception (or accused forms of deception) including lying, filters, make-up, and elective cosmetic surgery?

2 moThe Internet is likely to collapse soon for that same reason. There's so much AI slop now and misinformation that more and more people assume anything they see on it is a lie. If nothing can be trusted then lying is pointless.

The 'everyone believes nothing' equilibrium is probably a step forward from the 'everyone believes whatever fits their prejudices' equilibrium we are currently in.

2 moNot an industry, but the first thing that will collapse first is getting laid. Men must tell the truth to women that " hey, it wasn't your eyes or smile which got me attracted to you, but it was your bubble butt which i want to explore"

Because acting is all about pretending to be someone else so it's technically lying.03 Reply- 2 mo
Nope. It is only a lie, if it tries to fool people, but fiction is not claimed to be documentaries. even "based on a true story" admits it is not trying to fool you that it happened.
- 2 mo
Doesn't it fool people though?
People buy into the fantasy at least for the time they are watching it whether it be of superheroes, villains, different worlds, time travel anything.
A lie should not always be taken in a bad way.
Fooling someone to at least forget their problems, a rough day or something worse for sometimes, is a good lie according to me.
So yes they say it is fiction but that doesn't make you believe it, right? Cause if you don't believe it then you cannot enjoy it. - 2 mo
