What Is Your Opinion On Handshakes?

Question

A handshake is a firm press, brief, and professional, lasting 2 - 3 seconds, with direct eye contact, standing up straight, square your shoulders and smile, accompanied by a greeting, or goodbye.

These are some handshakes to avoid -

The Wet Fish - the limp type of handshake.

The Fingerella - the finger tip grab.

The Bone Crusher.

The Two Handed Handshake.

The Gas Pump Handle.

Wet / Clammy Hands - wipe your hand before the shake if necessary.

Do you regularly give handshakes, or perhaps you have a special handshake?

Originally, handshakes were a sign of distrust. You'd have the leaders of two warring nations meet up for a sort of truce talk and one would grasp the other's hand tightly and shake it vigourously in order to cause any hidden weapons up the other guy's sleeve to fall out. So, I prefer NOT to shake hands to show that I DO trust the other guy! Besides, most likely, we're both wearing short sleeved shirts, anyway so, nothing CAN be hidden.

Handshakes are an important component of social relationships if you also look the person in the eyes while shaking hands.

I like it when someone extends their hand out to shake mine.🙂

I like giving some a handshake if I feel that they are the type of person who would accept a handshake.

After COVID people are more reluctant to shake hands with just anyone because they don't want any germs.

Even my doctor and I give each other a fist bump instead of a handshake. 🤝

The handshakes originated because you needed to show another man that you were not carrying a weapon, and he needed to show you that he wasn't carrying a weapon. The handshake became something that men do, and we still do it to express agreement and to express harmlessness to each other, at least. It is a friendly and, at the same time, hostile gesture that men engage in specifically for the reasons I stated.

depending on who's hand I'm shaking if I'm doing business with someone then yes it's important if I'm meeting someone on a personal level then no not important.
