I'm from the US. If I told people I live in the CBD of a random US city, the vast majority are not going to know I mean "Central Business District".. She acted like this was the craziest thing to not know.

It would be "the" district in usa at least for my part. Military base would be an exception but industrial district, housing district. Downtown wouldn't use district but if someone said Downtown district wouldn't bat an eye.

So maybe being new york city is our largest city that uses different borough names like hells kitchen, Manhattan, and so own, if a city had multiple district that district would define themselves differently with a personable name.

Australia is as big as usa in a lopsided way. At the same time usa revolution happened around the time of Australia colonialism. Then you add that usa is a global bread box of farming compared to Australia outback.

My point being usa has more opportunity to be expressive vs Australia playing catch up with less then optimistic land.
