Both genders have their societal roles so-to-speak. And both genders have their EXPECTATIONS of the opposite gender. I'm not with "men are EXPECTED to provide, protect, and lead". Having said that, I'm not against it either. We have went through great social change as a society over the past few decades. But there are many parts of equality that are still lagging behind. I have 4 sisters. All are STRONG women. All have gotten married. Most importantly, all have STAYED married. I don't think that's a coincidence. All chose good men. All accept the flaws in their men. All build up their men rather then tear them down, but each in their own way encourage their men to be better men.

You asked what a woman's role is? I'm telling you. It's whatever you want it to be. But understand whatever that be doesn't mean a man has to stand by you. You have to EARN that. Not just today, but every day. If you do not want to do that then the role of a woman for you is being single. I think this is what a lot of women get wrong. They're trying to blend modern empowerment with old time expectations. It doesn't work, it'll never work. Sure she might land a guy, but she won't keep him.

    Three things:

    1) Have babies

    2) Take the primary role in raising them

    3) Create as much comfort for the family as possible in the place they are living

Nature and millions of years of evolution physiologically designed women for this role just as it designed men for the role of providing, protecting and leading. The purpose is to maximize the chance of survival of the species, the most important mission of any species, by creating a strong family unit and dividing responsibilities. Without these roles the species cannot survive and we would not be here today. The human race would be extinct.

I don't thin men and women have set rolls. In a relationship you get to make your own dynamic. In our house, my husband is the provider, protector and leader. I take care of everyone. I do most of the house work, order groceries, schedule his doc appts and remind him of them lol. Hubby also fixes stuff, reaches up high and lifts the heavy stuff. We each enjoy are rolls and sometimes we mix things up a bit. Before my husband worked for the company he works for now, he got laid off, so I was the provider for two months.

The complementary role would be to nurture, create, and inspire. However, that is a painfully outdated concept.

The very same role than a man.

That is, for people having fun with tropes, it must be like that. The more austere people might think that the woman's role is to take the last available seat, which would be being provided for, protected and led by an everlasting fatherly figure. Beard not optional.

To be a home maker, mother and support for her provider, protector and leader.

But modern Feminism has demonized this and has turned the last few generations against it with brainwashing/grooming them into not being what a woman in a relationship should be.
