If you were a leader or how do you want the President to handle it.
Reality is... noone else has power over the issue than US President, as far as I can tell. USA still has the Navy and currency, so it's on the USA.

If you were a leader or how do you want the President to handle it.
Reality is... noone else has power over the issue than US President, as far as I can tell. USA still has the Navy and currency, so it's on the USA.

So currently, although who knows with Trump, it has been handled by supplying defensive power, trade and an active navy presence. Paired with an ambigious stance toward whether or not USA would join to defend were Taiwan ever invaded. Chinese culture being focused on slow growth and prosperity has made this enough. To China it is a question of time and patience is fine.
It is important for the US as Taiwan would be the ideal port location for China, Taiwan also produces a lot of chips and alike of commercial and military value. Basically by being able to strangle Taiwan, China's trade can be restricted. The military lesss so nowadays.
The core issue now? USA is weaker than China. The view is not that China might act out but like Xi said that the US might be tempted to fall into the Thucidydes Trap. Which is an awful name for a phenomena americans coined. The Thucidydes Trap is really just a fancy word saying that when an emerging power, China in this case, threatens or is about to overtake the existing hegemonic superpower, USA, the hegemon is likely to be inclined to war. Please take a moment to think of what it means for China to outright say this, to the US President no less. Laughingstocks.
So. Really. If nothing is done China eventually wins out. As they have been. For this the policy is fine to be unchanged and it is my preference as it does not actually matter much to most of us at all which hegemon is in power, it also slows it. But due to Trump's action what would have taken a few decades might happen in a few years. China will push for unification as a global statement of their hegemon status.
If something is done one would need a whole different approach to somehow get Taiwan on USA's side. Which might be near impossible offensively and USA, absent some crazy miracle, can not compete longterm.
Trump has already abandoned Asia. Korea and Japan now have to make deal with China because everyone can see the U. S. doesn't know what they're doing they're just flailing wildly at everyone. The original plan was to build an alliance with Japan, Korea, Australia, India, who all don't really like China and use the combined strength to contain China.
But Trump has done everything in his power to piss these countries off. Arresting the Korean factory workers that were supposed to help rebuild U. S. manufacturing. Making jokes about WW2 while meeting the Japanese prime minister. Putting tarriffs on everybody, now cutting off their fuel. I don't think Trump even really cares about Taiwan. People tell him to care but he believes in taking what you can take so he probably thinks China should have Taiwan.
The U. S. military is losing to Iran and expending way too many resources while achieving nothing, they couldn't do shit to China anyway. I think the reasons why China is not doing anything are more political. They want to be the dependable ally that follows international law (at least right now), because that's the most advantageous thing to do atm.
I'd say the best policy is one of ambiguity. I don't think the US public wants to get into a war over a tiny island with a super power. We also don't want to let china know that. So supporting Taiwan with weapon sales and giving them technology and intel all well affirming the "one china policy" is probably the best course of action. Which is already the US policy and has been for decades.
The good thing is that we really just need to wait out china. Because of their one child policy and many other stupid ones, china will not be relevant on the world stage in 50 years.
agree with you. China has some leverage but don't see a reason to ruffle feathers.
Trump won't do anything other than tell Taiwan to surrender and make a deal. He's made it abundantly clear he believes the strong can do whatever they want to the weak. America is simply not going to war with a country that can fight back.
yep. talk. he can pull levers, he has... tariffs and such. war, nope.

Taiwan , just like Hong Kong , like it or not will fall under the motherland , this is how it will happen , this must never be disputed , as if you want to go to War with China it really is " Lights out " ..
There will be no ' handling ' as it's not a USA issue.
Just a matter of time.
agree w that.
Make a deal with Taiwan. They provide a military base and supply lines, we send over a detachment of navy personnel and marines. They get some protection and when China invades, and they hit our people, we go to war by default. China would know this and what we can do to them, and would likely back off.
wholly crap... that's a big escallation...
that cause the tail of the jowls of the dragon to salivate... with what counter effect? they change their bond policy?
That's the "might makes right" approach. Peace through strength. It's very much been the approach, but an escallation in my view. you don't see it that way?
Would you be willing to do a tour of duty carrying some firepower on fortress Taiwan?
Realize, a big ocean between us and them... and only the Navy to keep you secure.
I don't know the answer to this one... it's a mess and eventually, the snake (China) swollows the egg (taiwan)... be my assumption long term. Fighting and war is all a question of how fast is the change, not if there is change.
When I was in taiwan, I saw a LOT of chinese products. they are doing business. fyi...
Thanks for sharing your view.
@MrChinaski Wow!!
Won’t matter in my opinion, we lost militarily to Iran and lost diplomatically to Iran too which ruins the world’s economies since Iran holds all the cards with Strait of Hormuz and Oil.
We definitely cannot stand up against China, and we most certainly have no say about Taiwan being its own country since China holds all the cards due to making American products for American companies for real cheap (American jobs are never coming back to America, Trump promised to bring jobs back from China And Mexico last presidency and never achieved it, even his Trump Mobile is going to be made overseas after originally promising to be Made In America changed to ‘American Values In Mind’)
Future Administrations will follow.
The USA should ask Taiwan if we can annex Taiwan. If they agree... what the fuck is China gonna do then... besides cry about it. Personally though, I'm not a big fan of running protection for places that don't kiss the ring or juggle my balls.
"Interesting" idea... risky...
The problem isn't what Trump any other President would do. The reality is that over 90% of the world's semiconductors (aka micro chips) are manufactured in Taiwan. This would trigger a global economic collapse almost over night. Everything as we know would come to a complete stop. The world would be crippled. China and the US both know this. It's the modern "Cold War" if you were. So, if China were to invade it would trigger a global war. No doubt about. This is not something that can be ignored.
Arm Taiwan to the teeth. Create an Asian Nato. I don’t want the US fighting China though as it is not our war.
Make taking Taiwan so strong that China risks losing the war or at least losing unacceptable amounts of soldiers and equipment. That will help Taiwan be safe. Their whole nation needs to mobilize. Tons of missiles need to be ready. Chinese blockage needs to be destroyed so special weapons will be needed such as special land based torpedoes that hunt ships and subs and even mines.
Rant on TruthSocial at 3:30am. Impose 7000% tariffs on all Chinese goods. Then when China tells you to fuck off, you back off and reduce the tariffs to 45% and tell your citizens what a great dealmaker you are. Then when a female reporter questions you on it, you belittle her and call her" dumb" and "stupid". Then China invades Taiwan and fucking laughs at you. Then you eat more cheeseburgers and play golf and think about how great your ballroom is going to turn out.
That's about how this is going to go.
Tell West Taiwan that it's about time they close down their rebel government and submit to the authority of Taipei.
maybe, this is the chinese civil war after all...
but they are in our pocket... strategic power globally.
LOL, the USA has NO power or jurisdiction on the matter.
Just like the USA invented the Ukraine problem to hold back Russia, so it has invented the Taiwan issue to hold back China.
Weapons, debt and problems are the three main US exports. But the USA no longer has the ability to export the former two. So all it can do is create problems, like we see with the Iran and Israel fuck around.
I think much of what is happening is all about controlling China and dissuading an invasion of Taiwan.
China now has a dependency on US oil to add to it's dependency on the US market. China has flipped on Iran. If the EU would impose trade sanctions in the event of a Taiwan invasion by them then China would be severely hurt.
The ship has sailed already. It's only a matter of time before mainland China absorbs Taiwan. If the US wanted counterbalancing influence in the region maybe it should have paused before shitting on all its allies. The US has gone it alone and, as Iran shows, there are profound limits on what it can achieve in that way.
In whatever way gives us the best outcome with Iran and the shipping situation in the arctic.
There is nothing we can do. China has 60 times the population and 265 times the size. We need to stay away.
I think that Taiwan handles it well enough on their own.
So my advice to your "President": get your own country tidied up.
I'm pretty sure Donnie Piss for Brains would threaten to blow China into the next galaxy, much like what he is doing with Iran. Then China would chuckle and crush us like the useless bug trump has made us.
Seduce China with commerce. He did that yesterday.
I would tell China that if Taiwan ever attacked China for no reason we would come to China’s defense, because that’s what a good friend would do. Now if China ever attack Taiwan for no reason…..
Historically, democratic nations are supporting other democratic nations, especially when under threat. At least it was that way, until the orange assclown arrived on scene. 🙄🤦♂️
Sell weapons to Taiwan and tell Xi that if he makes a move against Taiwan he can forget about doing any business with the US or any other NAYO country,.
Does America care about Taiwan?
Okay maybe because of chip manufacture
TSMC
But when America proclaims about "democracy" I don't buy that.
Nancy Pelosi went to Taiwan to support them but who else? Is it more the Democrats?
It's hard to argue with China considering they REALLY want to take it
The reds want Taiwan for the technology. If you put explosives in the chip factories, they might back off. It is the ego of president Xi that is the problem. He is the Chinese Trump but much worse because he is evil.
To be frank
👀
I don't really give a hoot of an owl 🦉 about Taiwan because to me - China is an awesome consumer goods brands and look - China does what China do : lol
Same as USA always does what USA do 🫢😋
they only need to keep things as they are now...
two chicken-shits...
I hope everything goes smoothly
ain't that the truth. its all we can do...
Why should he? That's none of their business.
It's geo politics, he has to handle the situation in some manner. how should he or she handle it?
The current policy since 1970's is "one china" and we provide weapons to taiwan to defend themselves.
I would call china's bluff and "Invade" Taiwan.
China is forced to admit Taiwan isn't China or engage in a war with the US.
Building a time machine and moving Trump 5 cm to the right side while next to last assassination attempt on him
that's not a rational answer. ignore trump exists. ...
He'll handle it however Israel tells him to handle it
a Taiwan war will be horrific. The US president will try to play China and Taiwan against each other like they did with Europe and Russia.
Try to avoid war, but don't let China have Taiwan.
why? they do a lot of business... they are chinese. differences in politics?
China doesn't respect human rights
It is part of China like Hawaii is the US
Just say Taiwan is to be free from china
And then?
There's a china/tawain issue now?
It's not his problem.
Nukes. Lots of nukes.
