Why do some people try to convince themself “a bot account wrote this” when they see a comment they don’t like or disagree with online?

Bot accounts do exist but that still doesn’t mean every comment you see online that you don’t like or disagree with is coming from a bot account.

People do that for a few psychological reasons, and most of them have less to do with “bots” and more to do with protecting their ego or emotions.

One big reason is cognitive dissonance. When someone sees an opinion they strongly disagree with, it can feel uncomfortable. Labeling it “a bot” is an easy way to dismiss it without having to seriously engage with it. Another is ego defense.

The people who struggle to accept other people have a different opinion are weak minded.

Because a lot of the time bot account ops do happen. If a post is full of emdashes or the accounts are brand new or have oddly consistent name patterns and all same the same thing then it is probably a bot.

I see it a lot with people who simply don't understand what a person has commented so they accuse them of being a bot.

I don't think the are many bot accounts here. The site is too irrelevant for anyone to bother.
