I am dealing with tough times currently and doing everything I can to keep my head above water and it seems it isn’t enough, I am about to lose everything I worked my ass off for , so I am at a point I will do pretty much anything to get my hands on a chunk of money to save me. I been applying to jobs like crazy and I am still waiting for a job that I really want to give me an answer , these jobs today are nothing but a waiting game and it’s so hard to land a decent job today , so I am praying I land this job , but for the time being I don’t have much time to wait , because I am about to lose pretty much everything I worked hard for. I am willing to do anything that doesn’t physically hurt me for money , like humiliate myself or whatever just so I can save my things. None of my family or friends’ can help me because they are barely making it by as well, this country has gone to hell on a hand basket with the prices of things , I even applied to unemployment and they are giving me a runaround as well , and now I have to wait until they dig into why I was released from my job, just blows my mind on how something I paid into I have to wait for? Makes no sense to me. So desperate n times calls for desperate measures , So I am willing to do pretty much anything to get my hands onto some money to save me , Have you ever did anything desperate to save you? What was it?

I've seen advertisements about reverse mortgages. I'm not sure how it works, but you get money somehow from your house.

Isn't there any way to get some of the equity from your house maybe?

I'm sorry I don't know more about what a reverse mortgage is, but you can Google it and see if it's something that will get you some money.

I've had to sell my belongings before. Could you have a yard sale and get rid of stuff. You should have one anyway because if you move in with your brother, you won't be able to take it with you.

I've had to put ads in the newspaper and rent out my son's room and he shared my room. I had to have fricken strangers move in with me when my son's dad abandoned us.

I feel your pain Finche! I used to get jobs with no problem. Then I moved back to California and it took me 14 months! I became a professional interviewee!😞 The reason no one would hire me was because you have to be bilingual and speak Spanish and I don't. And I pounded the pavement literally going to company after company leaving my resume. It was awful!!

Sorry I am telling you my stuff, but maybe it's comforting in a way to know that I get what you're going through. I just wish I could take your burdens off of your shoulders.

I am sorry you went through that as well, and I have been doing everything I can to keep my head above water , I thought about a reverse mortgage but I don’t want to be stuck in this area for the rest of my life , I want to sell this house and move especially if I don’t land that job, I been selling a bunch of stuff as well , but still not enough to keep up with my bills , My ex put me through a world of hell with her stupidity with money , the girl needs serious help. But of course everything is fine and dandy for her because she is a user now mooching off of her brother , leaving me with all the damage she pretty much done to us. I told her she is the biggest POS person I ever came into my life , she takes no accountability for anything she has done , everything was always my fault but never her fault. She pisses through money like it grows on trees and acts like she has no responsibilities whatsoever, she can’t keep a job if her life depends on it , so she is complete worthless to me. She thinks she is getting some money when I sell this house and little does she realize I am not giving her a dime once it sells because she isn’t helping me whatsoever. She makes excuses constantly and acts like she is this victim when she clearly knows she is the POS

The first thing that came to mind was selling my Nintendo 64 so I could get a Wii. Its been really long ago since money has been an issue for me since I have low costs and have been good at saving.

I did get into a situation where I had suspended pay because of a rogue move by my former employer they claimed was the governments fault which in hindsight I don't believe. The suspended pay was consensual at the time since I believed their lie that they were being forced by the gov. I reassured them I'd manage to get them what they needed to get off the hook if all they did was have some faith, but I wasn't going to do the thing they were trying to force me to do since it was part of a coverup of the medical condition they caused and I wasn't going to fall for those tricks.

At the time what they didn't know is that in the situation I was in I could last a year on my savings so they never had an actual means of pressuring me. It was a total tactical move because I knew that by the end of it suspended pay has to be paid out, I wasn't loosing money so I could afford to keep living as if I was gonna get paid anyway and burn my savings up since in a few months time i'd catch up. And I managed it of course like I promised, I got the proof that what they were asking of me wasn't necessary. That is when they truly revealed their true nature and demanded it of me anyway despite me having done my part in getting them off the hook. I told them its against the law, they checked with their lawyer and then stopped bothering me since I checkmated them.

So i'd say I have been on the opposite side of this where they were trying to get me to do things I didn't want and instead I could bail myself out of the situation.

I hope you can find a way out of it in time, it sounds like an absolutely horrible experience.

I've been fortunate to never get to the desperate stage, but I can tell you a story my father told me.

Many years ago, my father got fired from his job and was blackballed from other companies. He used up almost all of his savings. He had a complete collection of Indian Head pennies, which would be worth thousands today. He sold that collection to get enough money to pay his rent and buy some groceries. That got him through enough so that he finally got a job and got back on his feet.

Do you have anything worthwhile to sell? That might help you get through hard times.

I've had ideas but most things require investment to set up and if fail end up worse off. As far as I'm aware there are no get rich quick schemes. And I wouldn't ever sell myself sexually for money.

I hear you on desperate times! I'm in UK not U. S but cost of living is crazy and I work but still get benefits cos I am under threshold to support myself. I have savings but I've had a hard two years. Just this week the water company decided to increase the monthly bill by £30 (total £102 a month) and that's nothing to do with usage. Food prices and fuel is set to rise again. And who wants to live and work to just pay bills and no money for treats and self-care?

On the job front - AI has made a big different uo how you apply for jobs and who gets selected as every application you send now should be unique to each job with matching words to the advert in your resume to pass AI scanning. I recently done this and got interviews for all the jobs I applied for. And I've now started a very good job.

I am far from lazy , I applied to over 100 jobs so far , and barely hearing anything back as of yet , most underpaying jobs won’t hire me because they know I will leave as soon as o land a better paying job , just how it is , because if that was the case I would go flip burgers at McDonald’s but I make more with unemployment than I would get paid at McDonald’s , plus I need to make a certain amount to keep my roof over my head
