Why do some people born into wealthy families appear entitled, out of touch, or less aware of the struggles faced by others? One explanation is that a lifetime of financial security, social connections, and access to opportunities can limit exposure to genuine hardship and adversity. When individuals have never experienced poverty, homelessness, financial stress, discrimination, or significant uncertainty, they may find it difficult to fully understand the challenges that many others face on a daily basis.

By contrast, self-made individuals often develop resilience, determination, and a deeper appreciation of life's obstacles because they have had to overcome them firsthand. Having struggled for opportunities, financial stability, or personal success, they may possess a greater understanding of the sacrifices and barriers encountered by those from less privileged backgrounds.

The issue is not wealth itself, but the absence of lived experience with adversity. Without firsthand exposure to hardship, some people may unintentionally underestimate the difficulties faced by others or assume that success is simply a matter of effort and personal choice. This can sometimes be perceived as entitlement, a lack of empathy, or being out of touch with reality. However, it is important to recognise that wealth does not automatically determine a person's character; others may have had fewer opportunities to develop that understanding.

They never had to work hard for anything. Rich kids never had to work at McDonalds and never had to wear bargain basement clothes. Rich kids get to go to a fancy private college and never have to sweat about paying tuition.
I was able to give my kids a better life than the one that I had.. I was happy to do it and I am proud of how my kids turned out but I have noticed that they lack certain skills that I have because of the need to have to figure everything out as I went along and sometimes I had to color outside the lines to achieve what I wanted.
