Trump supporters, how do you defend his Iran MOU and still back him?

I am no MAGA Trump supporter, but I didn't hate the guy either. How can you defend the Iran deal? The Iranian military was degraded and its economy on the brink. US goals were either achieved, or on their way there. The main question was on how to dismantle their nuclear program and end enrichment. All of a sudden Trump calls a ceasefire, launches a blockade, and has 2 months of negotiations.

Then we are given the signing of this MOU. Not only is it no better than the JCPOA, but it might offer significant financial concessions. Trump basically turned a military success into a diplomatic failure. If officially signed, it will bring a status quo and an emboldened regime.

This ignores other realities such as Trump betraying the Iranian people and fighting with Israel. Is he just horribly incompetent, senile, or a foreign agent? With his handling of other policies, im beginning to see credence in the conspiracy that he is bought and controlled. This will lose him significant support and destroy his legacy.

I will gladly vote Democrat after this fiasco. It was said "Iran has never won a war, but never lost a negotiation" seems very true. Trump seems to desire to make it true.

The only thing we can hope now is that the talks fail or the war resumes. If not, this could have serious implications moving forward.

How can any of you support this, or continue to support him?

For those who will inevitably call me a liberal. I am a centrist, and agree with Trump on many things. My issue is not with the war. I know the military dominated Iran, and that destruction will take years to rebuild. I also support the war and see it as a necessity to combat a multi decade evil. My complaint is Trumps handling and the negotiations. I believe it was preferable to continue military operations. It is clear where the military succeeded, Trump and his negotiators failed.

Also, I am not claiming either side "won". The conflict is not finished, there is no peace. Claiming a victor shows bias on the reality of the current issue. It's purely for political clout. My concern is specifically with the failure of the negotiations, and possible concessions. Even if the US offered concessions conditionally, I do not see that as a defeat. Concessions without guarantees is my worry. The talks may also collapse and war resume. It will be am interesting few months.

The problem is that President Trump was running out of time. He did not think it would take so long and there is an election coming up in November. Voters will be angry in November if they are still paying over 4 bucks a gallon for gas, Republicans are gaining momentum and are almost dead even with democrat candidates. Even though historically the party in power usually loses in the mid term elections the Republicans have a good chance of retaining control of congress. President Trump has to concentrate on domestic issues. He must bring gas prices down, get the SAVE act passed, deport another 4 or 5 illegal aliens and keep the economy running good. Hopefully the voters will remember what a horror show it was just a short 2 years ago. and do not want a repeat.

So he agrees to talk about concessions that gives the Iranian regime a major propaganda victory? This is a regime that desperately wants the US to fall. If Washington's negotiators agree to this, the future is bleak.

The US decimated Iranian military and will prevent Iran from ever getting nuclear weapons. Hormuz is now open to traffic and oil and gas prices are dropping. There is 60 days to negotiate the final terms of the agreement and the 60days can be extended another 60 days. That gets us to election day. If Republicans win and Iran does not want to deal Trump can go in and finish the job.

That is my hope. I give no credibility to his negotiators. If this MOU is the best they could get in 2 months, they won't convince Iran with anything. I agree Iran was decimated, but the US is losing the negotiations. Many Republicans are against this.

Hopefully you are. Hopefully this Iran situation works out for the betterment of the US. If not, we are suffering with inevitable control or Marxism in the west, China's uncontested invasion of Taiwan, more invigorated extremism in the middle east... etc. it will be very bleak.

The MOU is a disaster if officially signed. It means the beginning of the end of the western world. Trump was WINNING the war. I'm convinced he's a traitor. Nothing else makes sense. The problem with all this, again, is that you say something about a multi-generational problem, whereas Iran has never done anything in particular to the United States that is a big deal. Trump just has repeated over and over again that they have, which is part of his big lie technique, and you've fallen for it.

I'd suggest studying history. Iran has been a major regional adversary for nearly 50 years. They have been behind the deaths of more than 1,000 Americans, the major enemy of the US allies of the region, a destabilizing force within the region. You can simply claim to hate the US or disagree with its policies. But don't pretend that Iran is innocent. Even in the 1980s, Iran attacked oil tankers and the US was forces to launch Operation Praying Mantis to destroy a good portion of their navy. These actions from Iran are not new.

It's a MOU that offers significant financial concessions. Best case scenario the Trump negotiation team is able to make it conditional. However, if the negotiation team failed to get Iran to agree to its other stated goals (missile production and proxy funding) I have serious doubts they will succeed. Iran will simply stonewall as it always does. Even Trump recently stated he didn't care about their missile program, going against previous stated goals. This is a betrayal. I supported this war, but Trump lost the negotiation.
