Mostly false. There isn’t a single condition or circumstance that leads one person to commit felonious crimes that millions of others haven’t suffered and stayed on the straight and narrow.
The one exception i would concede is that we would have far fewer people in prison if we made better use of capital punishment. Regardless of the offense, we should execute every single recidivist criminal who clearly has no intention of trying to live by the fundamental principles of a civilized society.
I’m a baseball fan. Three strikes and you’re out, for good. Also, make the executions public and mandatory attendance for everyone with any criminal record.
I could all but put an end to major crimes in a single generation.

This statement fails as we'd need to define whatever more functioning society even means and how. For example an extreme fascist state ran effectively could be deemed a super functioning society, but it moves the goal post of why and who's put in prison. In fact more would be in such example. But that's the problem this does not define what that actually means. Also if more functioning would imply more criminals being caught, and getting sentenced.
So in my view it leans on more would be not less.
But you could also make the argument a more functioning society, could have more intuitions that aren't prisons for those who don't deserve to be in there, and less crime for wealth if disparity was less, to other things.

All this to say I have no clue but I disagree based on this vague premise.

Most jailbirds have a thick crime folder and will never re-socialize. Someone who did something stupid one time and after jail time won't do it again is rather an exception not the main rule.
I think the society fails in matter that they don't put those people too late in jails and for too short time spans, after their criminal career escalated to an unbearable extent. Such people need to be isolated from society and that soon as possible and as long as possible because they will never learn. This is the fault of society and justice system it's too mild and too much cost oriented.

I would agree with that. Most people in prisons would not be there if they came from a non-broken family and/or their parents had disciplined them as children and taught them that actions have consequences.

Considering there are countries where prisons are nearly empty yet laws are strict but somehow still obeyed I would agree with the statement itself.


But I don’t think the solution is to let criminals out into the world.


We need to fix the paradigm for the future generations.
