Anybody who wants to release criminals, ask them if they are willing to house them and monitor their behavior. Criminals are in jail for a reason. In fact, they are so lax on crime these people are out the same day committing more crimes. It’s sad.
Nah. Not enough people are in prison. The only ones we can maybe free, are the non-violent rug abusers and sellers.

I don't think anyone who isn't a menace/threat to society doesn't belong in prison. I also believe that prison needs to be reformed to emphasize returning these people to society as productive and beneficial individuals if possible. I don't agree with unpaid labor in prison. I worked at a prison in Arkansas and they were paid $1.20/hr (if memory serves, it was a decade ago) while the prison charged Tyson Chicken just under minimum wage to handle and package chicken.
Side Note: at least when I was employed there in the 2010's most of Tyson Chicken's products were packaged by state inmates. This isn't even counting the numerous state construction projects they were employed in. Some see this as beneficial to off-set their cost but when you are sent to prison you are a ward of the state and the state is required to provide for you not to use you to make money as it sets a very dangerous precedent to incentivize denial of parole and extension of sentencing especially in a state as corrupt as Arkansas.
Definitely. Now that pot is legal in so many states, people incarcerated in those states for simple possession should be set free. Same should go for other minor possession crimes as other contraband is being decriminalized regionally.
Also, now that the penal system is largely privatized, we should be holding these corporations responsible for recidivism. If they’re not rehabilitating common criminals so that they can reenter society healthy and productive citizens, the company should lose money until they fix the problem. If they never do, they should be replaced by a company who CAN get it right.

It is a little back ass backwards though when someone embezzles or whatever and gets 40 years and ordered to pay it back. Like how the F they suppose to pay anything back while in prison? those types of crimes they should be forced to work and pay it back.

Commit a crime against a business and you'll serve massive time, hurt someone physically and you'll probably not see any.
You can tell laws are made by business owners to protect themselves, cause if laws were made by victims of real physical/violent/sexual crimes those would all be life sentences.
I think forcing prisoners to work and bring economic value to the world is better then setting them free to save money. I had health problems as a child and gym work was pure hell. I recovered in my 20s but no longer in any physical education classes.

So we should focus on fixing those problems. Once trauma and historical patterns occur, and children are damaged, it's very hard to fix. This is the human condition we were handed.
Releasing them is a bad idea without confidence they are resolved and have resources to live peacefully as member of society. Otherwise, we will all need to arm ourselves and know self defence.
They just need to build new prisons. Even better is to have our prisoners sent to prisons overseas and pay them to take care of them. I'm sure if that were to happen people would think twice as US prisons beat most of the prisons in other countries. But if you do the crime that would be tough titties.

The sentences often make no sense to me, either. What’s the point of serving a 325 years sentence? I knew a guy who got caught with a bit of weed (clearly personal use) and the third time they gave him seven years in prison. Yay, war on drugs! 🙄

Yes those who are arrested without any faults they should be let free of course. I am sure there must be many people like that who are innocent but arrested for political favors and stuff.
There are many people who shouldn't be in prison. If someone is violent, they should be kept away from society until they're safe to let out, plus a punishment in consideration of any harm they've caused.
Many young men would be better suited to experience in the military, and others could probably be better off with publicly administered corporal punishment.
Community integration is necessary to keep these people out of antisocial behavior.

Explain to me how you rehabilitate murderers, rapists, human and drug traffickers? How do you rehabilitate caused 6 deaths speeding in intersection? How do you rehabilitate people who beat their spouse or children? Like actual criminals. This isn’t Japan where almost nobody commits crime. Sometimes prison can be the best thing that happens to someone. County is fucking terrible, but upstate prisons which have actual rehabilitation programs can get you set up for life on the outside. There are TONS of innocent people in jail though.
I think the ones doing time for petty stuff like drug selling/trafficking possession, DWI or Fish and Game violations, statutory rape, possession of child porn should be released and just fined. And only reserve prison for thieves and violent offenders who pose a threat to the public.

Some people are in for BS reasons, such as possessing a gun when they had no intention of committing a crime. Others, such as repeat offenders of property crimes, need to stay in even if they haven't committed violent acts, if they have shown that they will just go back to their old ways.

There are too many people in prison for drug related crimes. I'd prefer to legalize the drugs (or at least de-criminalize drugs), and release the drug related criminals, except those who commit violence related to drugs.

Some people are falsely accused of crime, they should be set free. I also feel sad for people like the ones who were unable to pay debts. Otherwise murderers, robbers, rapists, child molesters, drug dealers better stay there.
We need to decriminalize things like doing drugs. So not so much release people, change the laws so less people are imprisoned. If you can't get drugs, you won't take them. Go after those that are giving the addicts the drugs.
Other: I think the people who are innocent and are in prison should be freed and the criminals who got to walk with little to no punishment should be brought back for a reasonable amount of time.
