If the Supreme Court banned AR-15s and 9mm handguns, what would you do?

Rumors are and because of leaks. The supreme court may ban certain semi auto rifles and hand guns. My guess would be the AR-15 and 9mm Handguns , both popular choices for mass shootings.

AR-15 has little kick , easy to use and effective way to get off many rounds. Also many high profile targets have had AR -15 used against them.

So what will you do with your AR-15 when they are illegal? I assume a felony to own 3 to 5 years in prison and a fine.

There are literally hundreds of rifles with AR-15 DNA at this point. And they are chambered in a dozen different calibers. It must be the most popular platform in the firearms industry. I don't see it getting banned even though I also don't see why any civilian needs to own one. But if you did ban the AR-15 DNA there are plenty of alternatives that are not based on the AR-15 DNA. Kalashnikov anyone? About 10 zillion made to date.

As for 9mm handguns meh, the 9mm is a cheap round but not a particularly great round. It's basically the old rimfire 38 special in center fire with higher pressure and designed for modern powders. But there are 38 Special +P rounds with similar energy. And once again, because 9mm is cheap it's a very popular round for military, police, and civilian semiauto handguns. You'd take out half the handgun market if you banned the cartridge and/or all semi auto 9mm handguns.

Take away 9mm and there would be plenty of alternatives...

• 22 Winchester magnum
• 32 ACP
• 327 Federal magnum
• 45 ACP including +P variants
• 38 Special including +P variants
• 10mm
• 40 caliber Smith & Wesson
• 357 magnum
• 44 magnum
• Anything beyond these are specialty hunting rounds that no one in their right mind is going to carry or use for home defense. And pretty much revolver only rounds. 454 Casull, .50 AE, .460 Smith & Wesson, .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum, and the ultra bizarre 45-70 Government including +P rounds. For when you need to shoot a grizzly bear or elephant invading your home.

That's the problem. All the guns would have to go. But there are people who have a legitimate reason to own guns. Ranchers and people who live in Wyoming, Montana, Alaska for example.

I don't have any problem with hunters or target shooters have a shotgun or bolt action / lever action rifles. And revolvers are perfectly adequate for personal protection or home defense.

They won’t really ban firearms in the US. thanks to the US Constitution and existing precedents, they can merely change the status of certain firearms. Thereby heightening the sale, possession and use standards that apply and making it easier to track lawfully obtained weapons and those who can access them.
I honestly don’t see it happening. For all the hubbub about “civil war”, ONE issue is more likely than all others combined to unify the majority and trigger a revolution. Nullifying the second amendment and the rights it guarantees is that issue. If you have been paying attention, then you can clearly see that the powers that be are doing everything they can to prevent revolution and keep the masses at each others’ throats.
The game plays out as follows.
The big “they” inflame the masses and trigger a civil war. Once one side gains clear advantage, the government joins the losing team to wipe out the superior force. Then when it’s all said and done they have a smaller, less capable fighting force that thinks the government is its friend. The big “they” easily disarms them and fascism sets in.
“They” might not even be Americans. The government could collapse and the wealthy & influential elites would leave the country. Any of a number of entities could then intervene without much resistance.
By the by, when the leaflets come fluttering out of the sky, your fate is sealed. Choose your team wisely. Ell oh ell!

I have no fear that this is something which will never happen in the US. The support for having guns regardless of political view is much to high. I do wish we had a dept of the FBI which sole purpose was for weapon purchase background checks and all weapons would have to be purchased through brick and mortar gun stores with a federal license, and the penalty for selling or owning or possession of would be an automatic 10 years in a federal prison.

Millions of us have CCL's and I often wonder if open carry wouldn't be better at stopping some crime as everyone would actually see that people around are also armed. Just something I've pondered about.

They’ve already banned those things in the past until the ban expired and it didn’t make a difference since criminals are just going to get them anyway, because if they’re not listening to the law about what kind of gun you can have why in the world would they care what weapon they used to commit the crime and where they got it? This only affects the honest citizen, criminals just get the guns from out of state and use them wherever they want doesn’t matter what they ban. Maybe they should ban people from killing each other and robbing each other but oh yeah that’s already a law but it still happens all the time so then banning a certain type of weapon is gonna make zero difference,

I bought a.357 magnum because I figured an automatic would be too difficult to maintain. I guess its a good thing that I bought a S&W Model 66. I have ben looking at assault style rifles but have not made up my mind. I have Remington 12 Gauge tactical shotgun for extra fire power.

"Rumors and leaks" and it's going to stay just that unless the constitution is amended to repeal the 2nd amendment which I don't see happening. This is purely a wet dream for those on the far left who believe the 2nd amendment only applies to a regulated militia thus we the people do no have a right to own guns.

Not even. there's enough spare parts out there to build multiple AR15s, enough manufacturing equipment and expertise to build them in a garage and of course 3d printing.
For instance the British Army is replacing some of the awful L85/SA80, believe me its bad with the Knight's Armament Company (KAC) KS-1 . Now its a good weapon system but because there are so many companies making AR15 platforms the British army could buy it and various other variants of the AR15 from the different companies that make it and as the parts are mostly interchangeable it wouldn't matter too much and theyd have a very modern inexpensive assault rifle at a very low price. They should have bought an M16 variant in 2001 instead of getting HK to upgrade the SA80 to the A2& A3 where the germans basically removed 95% of the parts to get to work which cost the same as just buying new M16s.

It comes down to their interpretation of the Constitution. I always knew this could happen because The founders didn't have semi autos back then. Also people can't own tanks, bazookas , machine guns. they will just put it in with those items. Maybe it is items you use with AR -15 . I heard it would be considered anti 2A.
