It seems like yesterday that America celebrated the BiCentennial. In a short 50 years it will be 300 years old. Are you looking forward to it? Do you think that America will still be the greatest country on earth?

u 1 moIf I was alive for the tricentennial, I would be 121 years old. Probably not gonna happen!
Also, the one constant in life is change. When you are young, the changes are exciting. I remember when my family got its first color television and first microwave oven. I thought life had taken a quantum leap forward. But as I have gotten older, I have not embraced all changes. Some of them make me uncomfortable, and I suspect those feelings will multiply as I get older. (That does not indicate a flaw in my character; no, it seems to simply be a ubiquitous part of our human nature.) So. . . I'm not sure I would want to be alive in 2076.
And maybe that is God's plan for preparing us to transition to the life hereafter.

cool you and @exitseven probably remember the bicentenial in 1976.

@strateguy632 I have a pewter shaving mug that was sold to celebrate the bicentennial. I bought one for my old man and one for myself. Still using it. Probably the last guy on the planet to use shaving soap, mug, and brush.

I turned 21 in the bicentennial year.

But I won't be around for the tricentennial
Things have really gone downhill over the past 50 years. People who were born in the 1990s or later have no idea what freedom is.
So I have no idea what America or the world will be like 50 years from now. I'm not optimistic.
In the 50s and 60s, there were projections that technology would produce a utopian future. But is seems that technology is actually bringing about an inescapable dystopia.07 Reply- 1 mo
Our engineering abilities to advance technology moved much quicker than we could adapt in a favorable way. Kids use digital communications instead of talking face-to-face, their social skills are deficient, and they wonder why ITF they never connect with anyone.
And, of course, AI is like the technology problem on steroids.
Death to all G@G bots! - 1 mo
@OlderAndWiser. Our communications and actions are monitored, analyzed and stored virtually 24/7. Devices have SMART capabilities. There are cameras with facial recognition everywhere.
Access to information is controlled.
In the '70s we could park on PCH and walk down to the beach. There were no curfews or cops patrolling. Then they made beach access available only through gated parking lots with fees and hours of operation with curfews.
We used to be able to buy an airline ticket and hop on a plane. Now we have to pass through a security gauntlet, remove our shoes and all metal and be x-rayed. You can't wait in the boarding area without a ticket.
Electric cars are an attempt to limit our travel.
They talk about promoting "15 minute cities".
They want to institute digital currency so that every transaction can be tracked and taxed and our access to funds can be frozen.
Chinese-style social credit scores are even a possibility.
Oh, but it's all for our safety, security and convenience, and to protect the environment. But none of this applies to those who are instituting the new policies.
There are books and movies that described such a world as dystopian. - 1 mo
Every restriction that Hitler imposed was promoted as being done for public safety.

Yes, except. . . when we get older and we are tired of all this nonsense, we'll look to the sky and say, "I've had enough of this shit. Beam me up!"

Disappointing, no doubt.

1 mo300? We're approaching our 1650th year, but it'll pass with quiet dignity and perhaps an extra biscuit.
But fear not Americans, I shall return to GAG upon that triceratops day to ask what people thought of the 250th celebrations and if they know who Trump was.03 Reply- 1 mo

1 moNope, not really. Because I’ll be old and my parents will very probably be dead by then. And my family, plus enjoying my best years matters more to me.

We will be around, but cannot imagine what that will look like. The kids running it then aren't even born yet. I think the founding fathers... and the women that controlled them, would be very impressed with what their experiment became.
It's amazing to think you can be born here and be American. That is not possible in most other places.
We are the most powerful nation on earth in all measures. Scary to think... hard to believe, because we were free to explore.

1 moYes, I am. Though, if we end up a communist country due to democratic socialists taking over the Democratic Party and republicans seem to prefer that over the type of democrat party we’ve had lately we might not have a government encouraging a tricentennial celebration of the country. In fact a democratic socialist government would likely condemn such a celebration

1 moFunny! I was thinking about that early this morning! I don’t think I’ll be around for it. I remember the bicentennial quarters when I was little, but I didn’t understand their significance. I see our nation’s constitution has been eroding, but I don’t see any other nation rising higher. I think 🇺🇸 will still be the greatest nation on Earth.
