Next year is the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and that anniversary is called The United States Semiquincentennial (Semi = 1/2, Quincentennial = 500 years). I am surprised there is not more celebration about this like there was 50 years ago.
Many of you here at G@G were born in the 21st Century or the late 20th Century so you will likely be alive on Saturday, 04 July 2076 which is only 51 years from now. On that date, the United States of America will celebrate its tricentennial; it will have been 300 years since the date of 04 July 1776 which is the date on the Declaration of Independence.

I won't be alive that day since I would be 113 years old. That's OK, I was alive and remember well the Bicentennial...
Let me tell you about some of the ways we celebrated the Bicentennial.
For the first half of the 1970s, America began celebrating. First, we had the official Bicentennial Logo which was everywhere. We had many different Bicentennial stamps but this one from 1971 shows the Bicentennial Logo on it.

The US Mint created Bicentennial coins for 1976. On the obverse (front) side, instead of "1976", the coin had "1776-1976". On the reverse (back) side, the images were different for that year only. The US Mint also issued a $2 bill with Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration, on the obverse and a painting of the signing of the Declaration on the back.

Also, from 04 JUL 1974 until 31 DEC 1976, CBS had "Bicentennial Minutes"; 1-minute segments about events on that date 200 years before. For example, here is the Bicentennial Minute of 31 August 1975.
So, we had these for over 2 years and they became a part of the culture.
So, you young people, 2076 is your time to celebrate. How will you celebrate?
And, for the artistically inclined, what logo would you make for the Tricentennial?
