Why do people with no kids, or at least none IN school, be forced to pay school tax?

Especially when kids are just as stupid leaving as when they started!! What the fuck are we paying for if none can even read or speak proper English by the time they graduate?

A lot of people feel this way. I worked in a K-12 school district and every time a major school project would have to be voted on it was usually the people with kids in the system against the kids that did not have kids in the system.
This can be applied to all municipal services. Why pay for a fire department if you never have fires, or what do you need the water department for if you have a private well?
The truth is that many people that are looking for a place to live look at how good the schools are. This causes property values to rise and everyone's house is worth more because of the quality of the schools.

Paying for the fire dept., et., all. is to help you PREVEDNT fires and, just in case you DOO have one!! THAT'S HELPFUL!! Paying a school to NOT teach kids I don't even have is A HUGE waste of MY money!! It's the same as making us pay for the education of college students so they can get a free ride!! If I ever have kids and decide to send them to a public school, I'll be GLAD to pay school taxes, AS LONG AS THEY'RE BEING TAUGHT WHAT I'M SENDING THEM THERE TO LEARN!!! But, at the same time, it should be up to the SCHOOL to supply the kids with what they'll need in the school; i. e: books, tablets, pencils, notebooks, etc.!!

I've gotta pay property taxes AND school taxes!! I just paid the property tax 2 months ago, it took almost one of my monthly checks. I just got the school tax bill yesterday and they want over $3000!!! It has to be paid by the end of Aug. and I'll be lucky if I'll even HAVE $3000 by then!!

Your initial question and the problem mentioned in the description are two entirely different things.

But to answer the former: because it's still highly beneficial to you. The more and better educated kids there are, the better for the economy and country as a whole. Doesn't matter if you have a kid in school yourself or not. It's the foundation of a wealthy, modern nation.

Kids graduating high school today have no idea how to use proper English, they don't know much of anything about history and they can barely do math so, how does THAT benefit ANYBODY? If you bought a car that hardly worked at all, wouldn't YOU want your money back or least know WHY it doesn't work as well as it should?
