DNA tests are not illegal in France. Paternity tests are. France decided long ago that a woman’s right to cheat is more important than a man’s right to know his wife cheats.
If this law were about “equality” then France also would have outlawed divorce initiated by women on the grounds of infidelity on the part of the husband, but they didn’t. If a man cheats, his wife has a right to know and divorce him accordingly. If a woman cheats, a man should just shut up and hand over his checks anyway.

Only if used to determine paternity. If an adult chooses to use a DNA test to better understand their ancestry and lineage, they have that right. Nobody has been thrown in prison or executed for using “23 and me”.

I believe it was basically that infidelity is so high that most 'fathers' were in fact not (even though the whole point is exactly that and unless everyone is tested, a data pool would likely be mostly be cheaters)
