Germany. Hard to define something as a genocide when the population grows exponentially. Sadly, the UN is inept and corrupt. Nuclear seeking nations that openly break the NPT on the nuclear committee. Nations that commit heinous crimes and real genocide on the Human Rights Council 😂

To defend their country from occupation—any patriot would do the same. Besides, even under Israeli rule, they are treated as second-class citizens.

Edward Said was a Palestinian Christian and one of the most prominent critics of Israel. Our own Cevdet Pasha described Lebanon as "Noah's Ark" because of its extraordinary ethnic and religious diversity.

The Shi'a Muslims have generally taken the hardest line against Israel, while Sunni Muslims have tended to be somewhat less confrontational. The Maronites are Catholics and have been closely connected with France and the West since the eighteenth century. They are generally the community most sympathetic toward Israel. Orthodox Arabs, on the other hand, have traditionally been the strongest Arab nationalists. In fact, Orthodox Arab intellectuals were among the pioneers of Ba'athist ideology and were staunchly anti-Israel.

The Druze and the Maronites were massacring one another in the 1840s, with the British backing the Druze and the French supporting the Catholic Maronites. Yet today, the two communities are considerably closer to each other.

Even Fairuz, the Lebanese Christian singer often regarded as the voice of the Palestinian cause and affectionately known by many as the "mother of the Arabs," is herself a Lebanese Christian.

In any case, centuries later they were all living within the borders of the Ottoman Empire. Then they saw that their fellow Christians in the West had become immensely powerful and had come to dominate global affairs. The Greeks first revolted with Russian support and later British backing; the Armenians likewise sought support first from Russia and later from Britain. In the end, however, they were the ones who paid the highest price.
