Why do you assume its going to be spent? Its a gold coin, if that is genuine gold its like all the other gold coins out there where the value of the coin is an extreme amount lower than the real value.

These things are worth more in gold than the dollar thats on it, so it doesn't matter if its regular legal currency or not. Its a collectors item or way to buy gold.

Its like asking if the Canadian maple gold coin is acceptable currency in the US, of course its not. But if someone was going to give me one of those instead of a dollar i'd certainly take it.
